IF YOU CAN'T FEED RAW, THIS IS AN ALTERNATIVE!!!
I tried to switch my dogs/cats over to raw food, since many of my friends have had such success, many diseases and physical problems even disappearing. But even though I tried it gradually, there were too many problems: vomiting, diarrhea, some just wouldn't touch it. So I gave up.

Then I read Dr. Pitcairn's book on natural animal health (a fine one entitled "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats"), in which he recommended as an alternative to raw food natural food purchased at a specialty store. However, if you do not want your pets to ingest ingredients in foods that have been genetically modified, these "natural" foods do not meet the test. For that, you have to go to pet foods labeled "Organic," i.e., Karma (made by the same company as Innova with 95% organic ingredients), Castor & Pollux Organix (95% organic ingredients), and Newman's Own Organics (70% organic ingredients).

Now don't be deceived into thinking that you will be free from a repeat of the recent pet food scare by purchasing such products. For instance, Innova is manufactured at one of the many branches of the same company's processing plants (Menu Foods, Inc.) that processed the recalled food. And besides the problems with Chinese ingredients, there are suspicions, possibly some of them proven, that these plants do not adhere to the recipe instructions, but cut corners.

In spite of all this, and Innova's claims that they are going to build their own processing plant some time in future, Innova is far superior to anything you can purchase in a standard supermarket or premium food section at a pet store. The ingredients are top-notch! For instance, turkey, chicken, cottage cheese, herring, carrots, apples, barley, rice, ad infinitem.

My dogs like it a lot, but I am on the trail of switching to organic when I hopefully find the right and final brand.
