Pith, a transitive verb meaning "to destroy the spinal cord or central nervous system of (as a frog) usually by passing a wire or needle up and down the vertebral canal." (Source: Merriam-Webster)
He pissed me off, Andy...he pissed me off for the last time, so I pithed him.
Biology teacher Andy Farmer only wishes his friend Chuck was lisping on that fateful morning, but when he arrives at Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings High to find the building wrapped in crime scene tape, he fears the worst. With the principal dead and Chuck missing, Andy agonizes over possible accessory charges as he plays coy with Detective French, all the while encouraging Chuck to own up for what others believe he has done. Andy feels a sense of urgency, though, when French's investigation reveals Andy himself is a more likely suspect in Principal Horace Shelton's murder! It's enough Andy has to deal with his bum hip and fading hearing, he doesn't want to do it in prison. Besides, who would feed the dog that Andy's son brought home from Tallahassee?

I Stayed Up Too Late To Finish This - It Was Great!
It is always a pleasure to find a new mystery writer. Kathryn Lively's plot was excellent, the mystery was well done and very realistic and her characters were really well written. Andy Farmer is a very nice guy stuck in an outlandish situation. It made for great reading. As a cradle Catholic I was particularly thrilled to find a writer who is writing accurately about our faith. It is not a book about Catholicism but the practicing Catholics in the book are real and very human.
If you enjoy a good mystery you really should buy this book!
Such a fun book
Just by looking at the cover you know this is going to be a fun read. PITHED features a 50 year old biology teacher with a bad hip, a dog named Steely Dan, and a wry sense of humor. For a great who-done-it that will bring a smile to your lips, get PITHED.
Likeable Hero
Andy Farmer is a likeable guy, caught in the middle of a high school political mess, including a murder, which the evidence sure looks like points to himself. He's got to straighten out a huge mess, cover for a buddy and figure out whodunit before time runs out. A good mystery, a page turner. Stayed up late to finish it.
