In the werewolf world, as in the animal world, instinct rules supreme. One instinct all werewolves live by is the ability to identify their mates. Another is the need for a pack. Unwilling to accept the claim of a potential mate, Jane Lyke is brutalized and exiled from the only home she has ever known. Slowly she heals and learns to live without the comfort of her pack. Now, even if she could go back, she wouldn't. She has proven she needs no one, neither mate nor pack.

The Outcast
Jane Lyke refuses to accept Anthony Silva as her mate and hatches a scheme to get him to leave her alone. The plan backfires, Anthony brutalizes Jane, and has one of his men throw her at his half-brother's feet; the same half brother that she lied about in her misguided plan to escape Anthony's mating. Before Anthony can harm her further, Roman, his half brother, stops him. Anthony vows revenge.
Since Jane lied about the pack Alpha, she is ostracized by and not allowed to live with them. This doesn't matter to Jane because she refuses to mate with any man, werewolf or human. She spends the next year recuperating, learning to defend herself, and trying to find happiness. Jane's best friend Vivian finally convinces her to go out one night and her life is forever altered.
Remy Silva knows that if he sticks around his twin much longer he will want to challenge Roman for control. Leaving because of this, Remy heads to his bar, The Outcast, to complete paperwork and basically hang out. When one of his managers calls him to come into the bar, Remy knows trouble is brewing. He doesn't know however, that this trouble is a red haired virago that stirs him as no one else ever has. The fact that she fights her attraction to him just makes Remy want her more.
Remy and Jane decide to be together for one night of sex. No ties, no mating, no regrets. Fate has other plans.
The Outcast by Jayelle Drewry is the story of Remy Silva, the twin brother of Roman, the hero in Ms. Drewry's book, The Other Half. Remy's character is in-your-face hot and totally Alpha! Not wanting to mate but wanting to fool around.
I watched in glee as he met his match in Jane. While Jane was a victim at the beginning of the book, by the end of The Outcast, she was a true heroine.
The Outcast by Jayelle Drewry kept me entertained the whole time. I thought it well written, intriguing, and just downright sexy. I love how Ms. Drewry portrays werewolves and can only hope that there are a few more stories up her sleeve.

Ugh.....
I am getting very agitated with a lot of the newcomers in this genre. I will just go over some of my gripes quickly and leave....
1. This is a book about werewolves, where no one turns into a werewolf until halfway thru the book!!
2. The story gives me more time to get to know the characters umm....bodily fluids, then them.
3. The book,, and the world she has designed, is totally misogynistic, period. The main male lead is one of the worst offenders.
4. It's fantastically unlikely: from the fact that this woman with no money and no friends can open a gym and become financially stable and a ninja of sorts in a year.
5. The 'pack', what it means to be a 'were', the initiation rite for soul mates, totally unbelievable.
The concept seemed intriguing. A female that breaks with tradition and gets exhiled, a male who had no interest in a mate. But about 5 seconds after they meet (which is like page 20) they are all about it. I am no prude but the sex was gratuitous, distracts from the plot, and in a clumsy non-erotic way. I am not kidding about the excesses of...secretions either. If you like your romance a little less show and telly you may want to steer clear of this one.
