Great Reference for Electronic Pop Culture from 1930-42
For a lot of us the Sears Catalog (sometimes called the Wish Book) was a valuable reference to help us shape our home and personal life. Often the Sears Catalog was found nearby where people can casually browse through it as I did in our home in my younger days. Mark Stein with the help of fellow radio collectors and Sears Roebuck has put together a detailed and concise collection of radios sold by Sears Roebuck and Company from 1930-1942, right out of the Sears catalogs.
The reprints of these catalog pages are divided by catalog year which also include any catalog supplements during the year. This makes it easy to see the model trends and new features being promoted. The quality of the reprinted pages are very good to excellent. The end of the book contains the model identification and price guide as well as how to identify what manufacturer Sears contracted with for the particular model.
My only criticism is that book cover and pages within could have been printed in higher bond paper. Turning the pages of the book has a newspaper or at best magazine feel to it.
Mr. Stein has done a lot of work and research in compiling the material and putting it in a very easy to use reference. A book worth getting if you are a radio collector, pop culture enthusiast or just a person who likes to take a look at the "good old days" when radio was king.
