WHERE THE DREAM BEGAN
Football fans everywhere know of Dan’s amazing NFL career and his dozens of league records, but little is publicly known about the early path he took on his road to superstardom. Where the Dream Began chronicles Dan’s formative years growing up in Pittsburgh, starring in both football and baseball for Central Catholic High School, and his All-American career at the University of Pittsburgh. The rare video footage is accentuated by present-day interviews with Dan and several of his coaches and teammates as they all reflect on the beginning stages of what ultimately became one of the greatest careers in NFL history.

Editorial Reviews
From the Publisher
"I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world, appear in movies, be in music videos, grace the most popular magazine covers, talk on the biggest TV shows, and get to know some of the world’s most famous celebrities. All that is nice. It’s wonderful, really. But nothing gave me a rush quite like running out with the team for a big game, in a packed stadium, on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Or on a snowy Saturday evening. Or on a nationally televised Monday night. It didn’t matter when or where. Throwing a football brought me the most fun and the biggest pleasure of anything outside of my family." --Dan Marino
"I enjoyed the relationship with Dan as much or more than any I’ve had in my coaching career. Everyone knew he’d end up in Canton, too. I’m just glad, once again, he ends up there as a Dolphin." --From the Foreword by Don Shula
From the Inside Flap
You know you’re living in rarefied air when the topic of "the best there ever was" follows you like a shadow. Such is the case for Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino, who holds dozens of NFL passing records, including most completions (4,967), most yardage (61,361), and most touchdowns (420), making him the most prolific quarterback in league history.
But for all he accomplished on the football field, as a Miami Dolphin for 17 spectacular seasons, as well as during his All-American high school and college careers in Pittsburgh, Dan has distinguished himself from other professional athletes of his era with his off-the-field contributions and his intense devotion to his family and friends. As he joins his sport’s greatest legends in Canton, Ohio, Dan brings with him a distinction that goes far beyond his incredible athletic achievements. His legacy will be that of a man who raised his position and his sport to new heights, as well as that of a man who redefined the persona of the American hero during a time when professional sports were realizing the need for lasting and meaningful role models.
Dan fulfilled the roles of sports hero and American icon like few before him, pouring his energies equally and generously into his career, his family, and his community. This spectacular pictorial book tells Dan’s entire story—in his own words and through never-before-seen archival family photographs and video footage. It is the rare and inspirational story of an exceptional athlete who realized that he had the God-given tools to virtually rewrite the NFL record books, and who walked the extra miles to use that platform to make the world around him a better place. This is Dan’s personal story, and, like his life, it goes way beyond his accomplishments on the football field.
Customer Reviews
Great book for Marino fans
Having been a huge fan of Dan Marino's and the Miami Dolphins since 1983 I can highly recommend this book.
"My Life in Football" details Marino's early days playing football at Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, PA to being drafted by the Dolphins in 1983 and follows through to Dan's broadcasting career and charity work. The personal and professional photographs alone are worth the price of this book but add an introduction by one of the greatest NFL coaches in history, Don Shula, and you'll be hard pressed to find a better inside view of professional football.

Overall I thought the book was okay (the dvd was great), I would of like to learn more about Dan's thoughts on the nfl and some more personal stories of the locker room and training camp experiences he had. The book has a lot of great photos.
A must-have for all dolfans!
Probably the most known football player all over the world, a legend also in soccer-addicted old continent. He is the reason why I'm a dolfan, so this book was a great Christmas gift for me. Great pictures, dvd. A must-have book!
