Customer Reviews
Over 2 years of this little phone...
I'm fixing to trade my 2nd little KRZR in on a new phone. I'm gonna miss the KRZR... it's one of the coolest looking phones I've ever seen. My first KRZR I had was AWESOME, great sound, great camera, great apps, great everything. Then I dropped it in the pool. I had insurance so for $50 they sent me a new one... This one was a refurb and I could tell the side buttons didn't work that good, they were loose. The only major problems I've had is that the buttons are cheap, along with the screen (both plastic that comes off very easily) also the speaker on mine just BOOM got quiet, now it's like volume 7 is volume 2. It's not just me either no one can hear on my KRZR anymore. I was up for an upgrade so I figured it's time to trade the poor little thing in. The bluetooth isn't the greatest... it sends pics, ringtones, blah blah but it's hard to find most other phones. It could just be shy or anti-social I don't know. Mine has been through a lot of talking though I have about 2,000 hours on it. I talk all the time. I'm not sure if that's a lot of hours compared to the amount of wear and tear on it or not. The back plate of the phone (the battery cover) is peeling but I've never had it fall off. Battery life is pretty good. I don't text so keeping that in mind the keys are okay minus the cheap fact, but nothing that super glue can't fix. The memory expanding is awesome, I didn't really need to buy a memory card because this phone has over 19,900 KB but I got it anyways and it's very handy. The camera is cool, it comes with some different editting options. You can set different ringtones for different people along with pics (of course).
Overall, GREAT phone with just a few minor details.
size DOES matter
I owned and used the Motorola RAZR since it was introduced and have enjoyed the features it offers. When my last RAZR began to fall apart due to age and use I figured what the heck, maybe it's time for something different. I spotted the KRZR, looked at all the pretty pictures, read about the features and decided this was the phone to go with. While a little bit more expensive than a new RAZR V3 I figured it would be worth it. WRONG. I am basing my opinion purely on the comfort and size of the phone.
While the KRZR is attractive I cannot get used to the keys. They are too small. While they do have a nice soft touch feel it does not compensate for the sacrafice of a good large key pad. Next, this phone is narrow. It does not feel right in the hand. It feels like I'm going to lose control and drop it at any moment. Last is the screen. When open the display is much smaller than the RAZR. Since I generally wear bifocals this doesn't make it any easier. An example is the phone list which is too small and cramped.
Now you're probably wondering if I am a guy with giant hands and is all thumbs. I'm not. My hands are of average size, and I play guitar. I can switch from acoustic to electric with no problem in spite of the neck differences. The bottom line is this phone would better fit a person with smaller hands and 20/20 vision. Tween comes to mind.
While I cannot dispute some of the advanced features the phone has to offer, I will only use this as an emergency backup. What about my RAZR? I decided to see if I can get it refurbished, but if it is too expensive I will just go out and buy another V3. ( I really don't need all the additional bells and whistles of the latest RAZR ) If I had done this instead of getting the KRZR I would have saved $20 and a bit of time writing this review.
I will say that if I ever decide to venture away from what it is comfortable, I will try it on for size. In this case, the phone just doesn't fit
Nice and Bright
I had a SLVR L7 which was a couple of years old. It worked fine, however it was not "EDGE" compatible and was slow to retrieve my email. The SLVR also had a color screen that was impossible to read in direct sunlight. AT&T/Cingular works great in my area and wherever I go so I did not want to change carriers. My new KRZR addressed all my SLVR problems. The phone works with AT&T's EDGE network and the color screen is very "sunlight readable". I no longer have to hide my phone in my ball cap in order to read what number I'm dialing. I like it. Amazon was very easy to upgrade through with AT&T and everything went smoothly. I got a good price on the phone that I wanted and what more could a person ask for. However, my "cats" still asked for more food in their food bowls. Some creatures are never satisfied. My local AT&T store was very nice about transferring my numbers from my old SIM to my new SIM although I guess I could have done it myself by following Amazon's instructions. The AT&T store has a machine that is dedicated to that process.
All in all, an easy transaction. Go ahead and get your new phone from Amazon, they do a good job of interfacing between you and the carrier.
