First things first: Get yourself a good laptop backpack to keep all this stuff in. It should be big enough to fit everything, plus some souvenirs and maybe a sandwich. It should be at least small enough to fit in an overhead compartment, and not flashy, so it doesn't attract attention.

You'll need something to store your pictures on. 2 gigs should be enough for a couple days, if not your whole trip. That's hundreds of photos.

Don't take the iPod's included cable with you to charge it. Grab one of these. Not only can you use it to charge with any USB port, you can connect it to a TV and watch your iPod stuff on the big screen. Great for hotels, or relatives who don't get good cable service.

Ambient noise (especially on airplanes) can make it really hard to hear your music, and the earbuds included with any electronic device are cheap crap. These will filter out all the cabin noise, and you can use them with ALL the devices I suggest. Oh, be sure to grab a cheap pack of AAA batteries.

Even if you know the way, one of these can save your butt if you take a wrong turn or have an unexpected detour.

THE BEST TRAVEL LAPTOP EVER... with a price to match. Still, if you don't mind the chunk of change, you can't beat it. My computer was always the heaviest thing in my bag. With this, it'd be the lightest. It's super-thin, super-light, and actually a pretty powerful computer. It doesn't have a memory card slot, though, so be sure to get a card reader.
