Each trip is easy enough to navigate with no mishaps or danger on the horizon for the siblings, which should be reassuring to young listeners. Once the pair finds the answer to the clue provided by their magical guide, Morgan LeFay, they are quickly transported back to the woods near their home. The four stories are linked together because there is a "special magic" to be found in each place. Osborne's narration sets the right tone whether she is speaking as Shakespeare or as little sister Annie. Some background music sets the scene for each foray. A great addition for libraries with Magic Tree House fans.

About the Author
Mary Pope Osborne grew up in the military, and by the time she was fifteen had lived in Oklahoma, Austria, Florida and four different army posts in Virginia and North Carolina. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the early 1970's, Mary traveled all over Europe, and spent the first six weeks of her trip living in a cave on the island of Crete. She then joined up with a group of European young people and traveled in rickety vans through sixteen Asian countries, including Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal. She was a bartender, an acting teacher, a waitress, a travel agent, a window dresser, and a medical assistant -- all before becoming an author! Now she is the author of many highly acclaimed picture books, early chapter books, middle-grade biographies, and young adult novels. In February 1993, Mary was elected the 27th president of the Author's Guild, the oldest, most established organization for writers in the United States.

Mary her husband Will spilt their time between an apartment in Greenwich Village, New York and a cabin in Pennsylvania. They own a terrier named Bailey, who sleeps on the top of Mary's desk every day while she writes!

Why only 4?
Ok, well, another reviewer pointed out that the number of stories decreased, but the length is the same, and believe it or not he's right. I wrote this before we got them, but after we did I checked how long they played and yep - sure enough, just about the same. The stories are getting longer and so much more imaginitive and fun (if that were possible!). I'd add the other 2 stars if I could, we're happy again :)



Why are there only 4 stories on this set for nearly the same price as 8 on the previous three audio CD releases? I'll buy it because my daughter loves them, but I can't say I'm thrilled with paying only $2 less for half the content.

Wonderful Adventure for Kids in early Elementary years
My children loved all 3 of these adventures, which we listened to in the car on a trip via the audiotape version. They laughed at the adventures of the kids, learning as we went about Pirates, Dinosaurs, and Knights. These are written with "old style" magic -- no darkness or evil overtones -- and my kids responded to it beautifully, requesting additional versions for later trips. My husband and I didn't suffer much either. I strongly recommend this collection for those who have early elementary kids (mine are 6 and 8 years old), whom they don't think are ready for Harry Potter and some of that ilk.

Fins Up for Dolphins at Daybreak
My name is Grant. I am in third grade. Last week I read DOLPHINS AT DAYBREAK because it looked like a really exciting book. DOLPHINS is my favorite Magic Treehouse book so far. I have already read VIKING SHIPS AT SUNRISE and CIVIL WAR ON SUNDAY. I would give all of the Magic Treehouse books I have read 5 stars, but I like DOLPHINS best because I love dolphins and the submarine adventure was really exciting!!!

Here's a bit of what happened: Annie was curious about the mini-submarine and talked Jack into exploring it. Inside the sub Annie pushed the wrong button and it started to go down to the bottom of the sea. They saw an Octopus, which started to grab the submarine...they also saw a hammerhead shark...

That's all I will tell you or it will spoil the story for you.
