Album Description
On his MAXJAZZ debut release, Softly, Lubambo performs a variety of compositions including traditional Brazilian songs and American standards as well as original works. The unique aspect of this recording is that each song has multiple guitar parts all played by Lubambo with different acoustic and electric guitars. Lubambo plays the following guitars throughout the recording: Casa Gonzalez - classical guitar (Spain); Dieter Hopf - classical guitar (Germany); Yamaha AEX 1500 - electric hollow body guitar (Japan); Parker "Fly guitar" - electric solid body guitar (USA); Do Souto - Cavaquinho (Brazil); Manuel Rodriguez - Fretless guitar (Spain).

Softly begins with the Brazilian classic Vitoriosa by Ivan Lins and Vitor Martins. Lubambo follows with the American love song Just The Two Of Us. Nature's Beauty is the first of five originals on the recording written by Lubambo and his wife Pamela Driggs. Lubambo wrote this piece for his daughter Luisa. Lubambo plays a lush rendition of Ingenuo by the legendary Brazilian composer Pixinguinha. Vieste is another lovely composition by Lins and Martins. Lubambo and Driggs were inspired to write Fly So High by a spectacular heron that lives in their neighborhood and visits their backyard frequently. Lubambo performs a great rendition of the standard In The Wee Small Hours of The Morning by Bob Dillard and David Mann. The original, Heaven Here, conjures the warm feeling of his home. Lubambo plays passionate versions of the American standards Comin' Home Baby and I Fall In Love Too Easily. By The Stream is another original written for his daughter. Pamela Elaine is a romantic ballad written for his wife. Lubambo closes with the Jobim classic Happy Madness and the Styne and Cahn standard Time After Time.

Out of sight!!
Zowie -- this guitar album is way up there in my book. Perhaps one of the best acoustic guitar (Jazz/Brazilian + hint of folk) set of pieces I have ever heard in terms of skill blended with some magic that seems to carry me off somewhere. The presentations are very subtle and soft on the ears.
