By an Amazon.com customer
Spider-Man (Widescreen Special Edition)Spider-Man (Widescreen Special Edition)
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $0.01
The biggest box office comic movie really brought the genre to the mainstream with force. It's also an amazingly well made film that didn't sacrafice the source material to make an incredible film.
Spider-Man 2 (Widescreen Special Edition)Spider-Man 2 (Widescreen Special Edition)
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $0.01
The sequel maintained everything that was right with the first one and improved on the elements that were lacjing. The ultimate comic book adaptation in my mind, this movie had it all.
BatmanBatman
Buy used from: $0.98
Often mailgined for focusing too much on style over substance, Tim Burton's initial Batman offering was exactly what a Batfilm should be. Its stylized noir feel epitomized what Batman should look like
Batman ReturnsBatman Returns
Buy used from: $1.53
Tim Burton's second and final Batman film stylized Gotham darker still nad had 2 excellent actors as 2 excellent villains. Best Batman film (including Batman Begins).
X-Men 1.5X-Men 1.5
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $0.01
Marvel's first major hit in the new era of comics, X-Men was exactly what it needed to be. it focused on the people instead of the spandex. Bryan Singer knew the strength of the characters would shine
X2 - X-Men United (Two-Disc Widescreen Edition)X2 - X-Men United (Two-Disc Widescreen Edition)
Buy used from: $0.01
X2 maintains the character arcs begun in X-men and adds a good dose fo action to the mix making it an even more well-rounded adventure of the merry mutants.
American SplendorAmerican Splendor
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.00
Based on the strip and life of Harvey Pekar, Paul Giamatti is excellent as the down-trodden hero fo the film and the in-and-out nature of the fimmaking shadows the life of Pekar quite well.
Blade (New Line Platinum Series)Blade (New Line Platinum Series)
Buy new: $6.49 / Used from: $0.87
Stephen Norrington's Blade was a dark and visceral look at what seperates a comic book movie from a superhero movie. Blade is no superhero. A fantastic cult hit that really opened the doors.
Blade II (New Line Platinum Series)Blade II (New Line Platinum Series)
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $0.92
Del Toro's Blade sequel is a lot different from Norrington's, showcasing much more action a more sci-fi element to the darkness of NYC. Not as good as the first, it is still a great vampire flick.
Blade - Trinity (New Line Platinum Series)Blade - Trinity (New Line Platinum Series)
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $0.77
The final Blade movie, written AND directed by David Goyer, really didn't do anything new with Snipes. Hannibal King was fantastic and I would have supported a Nightstalkers spin-off for him alone.
Bulletproof MonkBulletproof Monk
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $0.01
An indie book and a movie that bombed at the box office. The movie isn't that great, though worth a few laughs from Sean William Scott. The opening fight scene is what makes the movie worth watching.
Comic Book - The MovieComic Book - The Movie
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.33
Directed by Luke Skywalker himself, the biggest treat in this flick is seeing all of the voice actors playing roles on-screen. Putting the faces to the characters and voices was fun.
Comic Book VillainsComic Book Villains
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $2.45
I'm a sucker for DJ Qualls and Donal Logue, plus all of the comic talk and appearances of rare books just makes this flick fun to watch on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Daredevil (Director's Cut)Daredevil (Director's Cut)
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $0.97
Kind of crappy in theaters, the Director's Cut showcases much more storyline and answers a few plotholes in the original. When someone says DD isn't that bad, this is the version they're talking about
Elektra (Widescreen Edition)Elektra (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $0.95
Not a great flick, but I give them points for making a film centering on Elektra. Not an easy character to sell to the mainstream. Jennifer Garner in a red leather bustier - a definite plus.
Hellboy (Director's Cut)Hellboy (Director's Cut)
Buy used from: $2.06
Based on the Dark Horse series, Mignola's work is brought the screen rather faithfully. Blade 2's Del Toro shows his influence again with the bright colors in darkness motif.
Ghost WorldGhost World
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $1.87
An oddball indie book makes an oddball indie flick. Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi shine thru here as two mysanthropic hangers-on who need each other. Great little character examination.
Hulk (Widescreen 2-Disc Special Edition)Hulk (Widescreen 2-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $0.01
it bombed in the box office because this was not a summer action movie. it was a character-driven drama that centered on Bruce Banner, not the Hulk. Take it for that and it's an amazing film.
Lady Death - The Motion PictureLady Death - The Motion Picture
Buy used from: $0.95
A direct-to-DVD animated film, Lady Death's origin is retold. The animation works as a sort fo mix of anime' and Amaerican animation. Storyline is nothing spectacular, but it's worth watching anyway.
The PunisherThe Punisher
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $0.01
Thomas Jane IS Frank Castle. He immersed himself in the role and it shows. Travolta is finally good again ... a being a bad guy. It borrows heavily from "Welcome Back, Frank" and wins because of it.
The PunisherThe Punisher
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $2.36
The original 80s version with Dolph Lundgren didn't even have the skull insignia! This was a poor man's Punisher but is fun for nostalgia and to laugh at.
Superman - The MovieSuperman - The Movie
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $0.11
The first real comic-to-film adaptation done in a big way was Donner's masterpiece. Kidder as Lois Lane and Hackman as Luthor was inspired casting and Reeve made Clark Kent his own. A classic.
Superman IISuperman II
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $0.55
The sequel was much the same as the first, but a lot more fun. It didn't hold the same weight as the first, but it was more a good time sort of ride with the Kryptonian villains.
Men in Black (Deluxe Edition)Men in Black (Deluxe Edition)
Buy used from: $2.74
based on a Malibu comic book, the movie was a lot of fun. Wven with Will SMith (whom I'm not a fan of), the fun and action of the book translated well. The less said fo the sequel the better.
Stan Lee's Mutants, Monsters & Marvels: Creating Spider-Man and Here Come the HeroesStan Lee's Mutants, Monsters & Marvels: Creating Spider-Man and Here Come the Heroes
Buy used from: $0.49
A great interview documentary that has Kevin Smith talking with Stan "The Man" Lee on everything from the GOlen and Silver Age up to the current industry and what Lee is doing outside of Marvel.
