The set includes 5-inch and 7-inch santoku knives, a bamboo storage drawer, and a 12-3/4-by-15-3/4-inch bamboo cutting board. The santoku knives, Japanese-style cook's knives designed for chopping, feature a low-tip style with broad blades. The cutting edge of a santoku is minimally curved, providing less rocking action than typical European-style cook's knives. Alternating hollows on each side of the santoku blades create air pockets, allowing slices to fall away. The knives in this set are constructed of high-carbon, stainless-steel and have been stamped and double welded to create sharp edges. Half tangs extend to the hollow stainless-steel handles, which are ergonomically designed and contoured for everyday use. The knives in this set are imported and should be washed by hand. The bamboo storage drawer features one slot for each knife, and slides smoothly in and out of the bottom of the cutting board for convenience. The matching bamboo cutting board is 1-3/4 inches thick and easy to cleanjust rinse with warm water and dry immediately. Sharp but delicate
The price I paid was $15, which is not a bad price considering what you get. But the knives are very prone to dulling, so be careful how you use them. I mean, use your typical knife common sense about what types of surfaces to cut, but be extra careful with these guys. I tend to keep whole ginger in the freezer (it lasts longer), and I accidentally forgot how frozen they were when I tried to cut into one recenty. I attempted to slice off a small 1" piece with my santoku knife, and found that I had actually "ripped" the blade. Not one of my brighter moments, but with my heavier duty Henkel's chef's knife, frozen ginger is not a problem, so it was my bad judgment. But the bottom line is that these blades are good if you're going to cut through vegetables or other soft items. Do not use these knives on anything hard/semi-hard.
Great knives
The cutting board is more than adequate. The REAL value in this product are the KNIVES! Very well made, super sharp and take and hold resharpening readily. I've got a Cuisinart knife of the same type. It's now stuck in knife storage drawer. The 2 knives in this 3 piece set are happily enclosed in the cutting board on my counter where they get daily use, even dropped into the dishwasher. One piece of stainless steel with excellent grip and weight. Another great Amazon Bargain.
I like mine
I bought one of these for myself and one each for my mom & mom-in-law for Xmas. I saw all the posts about the drawer being tight and boy, was it ever. Once I got it open, I applied a very light (AND I MEAN LIGHT) coat of oil to the drawer and it now slides in and out easily. It's so nice and handy to be able to store the blades away when not in use.
