EXO A Frame Dual Style Acoustic or Electric Guitar StandEXO A Frame Dual Style Acoustic or Electric Guitar Stand
Buy new: $11.99
If you spend anything whatsoever on guitar accessories, you MUST get a guitar stand. Why? Well, if your guitar is always packed away in its case, you won't remember to practice. But if it's on a stand, it's always right there, handy, and ready to play. It's a psychological thing, but it's totally true. If you want to learn to play the guitar and get the most out of your lessons, buy a stand.
Korg TM-40 Large Display Digital Tuner and MetronomeKorg TM-40 Large Display Digital Tuner and Metronome
Buy new: Too low to display
Having both a tuner and a metronome in a single package is a great help to stay in tune and in time. If you would rather get them separately, then I would still recommend Korg for tuners -- good quality and inexpensive.
Stagg Standard Folding Music Stand with Free Carrying BagStagg Standard Folding Music Stand with Free Carrying Bag
Buy new: $17.95
A music stand will make sure that your music is always at eye level. I am not exactly crazy about this particular stand, but it is inexpensive. If you can afford to spend $30 or $40 then you can get a much nicer one.
Gripmaster Hand Exerciser Blue, Light Tension (5-Pounds per Finger)Gripmaster Hand Exerciser Blue, Light Tension (5-Pounds per Finger)
Buy new: $10.15
A gripmaster is a GREAT tool for strengthening your fretting (left) hand. You can also purchase the "Ruff Grip Caps" that attach to the gripmaster to help you build calluses on your fingertips (see below).
Ruff Rider Ruff Grip Callus Builder CapsRuff Rider Ruff Grip Callus Builder Caps
Buy new: $5.95
Get these caps to go along with your gripmaster. These will speed up the process of building calluses on your fingertips and give you fingers of steel in no time. Worth every penny!
Dunlop Trigger Curved Guitar Capo, NickelDunlop Trigger Curved Guitar Capo, Nickel
Buy new: $8.99
At some point as you learn the guitar you'll probably want a capo. I use and recommend this one by Dunlop, for both acoustic and electric guitars. It's inexpensive, easy to use, and works great.
Fender By Meguiar'S Fretboard ConditionerFender By Meguiar'S Fretboard Conditioner
Fretboard conditioner is critical to ensure your guitar stays in good condition. You should use this every time you change your strings to prevent the wood on your fretboard from drying out (and ruining your guitar).
Fender Guitar Polish SprayFender Guitar Polish Spray
Buy new: $3.95
Keep your guitar looking nice!
Dunlop Gel WinderDunlop Gel Winder
Buy new: $1.19
A string winder is inexpensive and will help you restring your instrument. I like this particular one because it is very cheap and also pulls out the bridge pins on acoustic guitars.
D'Addario Acoustic Strings Set, Phosphor Bronze Cst, LiteD'Addario Acoustic Strings Set, Phosphor Bronze Cst, Lite
Buy new: $6.60
I personally use these acoustic strings. I prefer their sound and durability to other brands, and the "Custom Light" combination of string gauges suits me best, although I will use "Extra Light" in a pinch. If you buy these locally at KSM they'll charge a little more, but they will actually restring your guitar for you.
Ernie Ball 2222 Hybrid Slinky String Set (9 - 46)Ernie Ball 2222 Hybrid Slinky String Set (9 - 46)
Buy new: $5.67
These are the electric guitar strings I use. I like the 9-46 gauge, and Ernie Ball strings seem to keep their "edge" longer than other brands I have tried in that they last longer without losing harmonic bite.
