Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Now in its seventh edition, Managing Police Organizations sets the standard for police leadership and management, the organization of academic courses, professional development, and promotional exam preparation. The book is uniquely designed to inform, inspire, and engage the reader whether the reader is a student, a practitioner, or both. The main focus of the text is developing one’s character and one’s competency to lead, manage, and organize a police agency.

New to the seventh edition:

  • Two new chapters: Chapter 1, “Decisions,” and Chapter 15, “Performance”
  • A new organization dividing the book into three parts: “Leadership,” “Management,” and “Results”
  • New insights, advice, and strategies based on the author’s ongoing experience as a police management teacher and trainer

“I can easily envision an officer in training, new supervisor, and a seasoned police manager reading and utilizing this text. The author’s approach is right on target.”

–David Kotajarvi, Lakeshore Technical College
