Product Description

This book recreates the ambiance of the ocean liner era by showing the actual objects used on board. Each piece of ocean-liner memorabilia is like an Aladdin's lamp, releasing wondrous memories of that grand style of travel. Beginning in the late 1890s, shipping lines forged their identities by commissioning unique furniture, china, silverware, glassware, vases, ashtrays, playing cards, menus, and stationery. These types of items characterized the different ocean liners, from the Normandie with her elegant Art Deco furnishings, to the stainless steel gleam of the S.S. United States, to the old-world luxury of the Queens.

Fantastic exploration of ocean liner life: Titanic Reborn5
I think that Myra and Eric Outwater did a fantastic job of assembling a vast array of interesting collectibles and relevant stories. The book really piqued my desire to go on an ocean liner and explore what elegant travel used to be. It is a must have for ocean liner lovers and experienced travelers. Makes for a great coffee table book as well.

Excellent start for collectors4
Outwater picked a fascinating subject. Her text is well thought out and the quality of the pictures are superb. Where the author hits a bump is that she had too much from modern liners and not enough from the older liners. Also the guesstimates on the prices of the items were a bit high. As a serious collector I think they were raising the rates on certain items long before their time.
