Customer Reviews
Excellent
I'm not normally a huge fan of self-help books/tapes. I think Tony Robbins' material is basically garbage. But this guy, Jim Rohn, is an amazing speaker and has a lot to say about personal philosophy. This 2 disc/cassette set is a great starting point if you've never heard Rohn. Long enough to give you something concrete, short enough that if you don't like it, no big deal. Only 2 hours of your life gone. I'd say that what separates him from other motivational speakers is that he lacks the BS that plagues others. He sums it up himself: "There are no new fundamentals (beware of someone manufacturing antiques)". Some of this material is hit and miss. He stresses, for example, keeping a journal, and passing that journal on to your kids as a gift. Okay, I'll pass on that one. But some of this material really will make you view the world differently. I think the section on personal philosophy is great, "learning to set a better sail". The guys is an energetic speaker, and witty. He does quote the bible occasionally, but does so in a historical (non-spiritual) way, that I find refreshing.
Practical and Inspiring
Jim Rohn teaches daily living skills that enable the reader to easily apply the teachings presented on this tape. He reminds us that a well rounded life includes a variety of experiences and foundations of knowledge that help people to live a practical and inspirational life. -- Samuel Oliver, author of, WHAT THE DYING TEACH US: LESSONS ON LIVING.
He really puts it on you!
Jim Rohn is one of the few motivational speakers who doesn't just tell stories about other people. I have listened to many others, including the self promoting Tony Robbins and they all seem to tell the same stories. How can the same things happen to all of them? Jim Rohn actually tells you what to do to lead a successful life and then "puts it on you" to be successful. For instance "How many books have you read in the last 6 months, for your future and fortune?". None? "Who sold you on that plan?" "Work harder on yourself than you do on your job!"
I really like the speech of Jim, it keeps your attention focused on the tapes, preventing drifting off. I highly recommend this tape series over any I have listened to (and I have listened to many).
