Product Description

As September fades, a new season begins. Leaves and temperatures tumble. And, as autumn falls, new colors and smells gradually replace the heat and intensity that was summer. Children love caramel-apple making and bobbing for apples. Jack-o'-lanterns appear and piles of leaves stacked high beckon. Autumn means the end of summer, but the beginning of something new and crisp and familiar.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 1–Simple language and colorful cut-paper illustrations are perfectly matched to provide an engaging look at an appropriately named season. The poetic text emphasizes all of the things that "fall": "The temperature falls,/bringing cooler weather./Grab your jacket or your sweater." Other spreads describe how "Leaves fall," "Ripe apples fall," and even "Football players fall." Varied seasonal activities reinforce the mood, including children bobbing for apples, selecting pumpkins, and playing in crisply hued leaves. Sure to please young readers, this title rises to the top.–Andrea Tarr, Corona Public Library, CA

THE BEAUTIFUL FALLING LEAVES......4
Autumn with its riot of reds, oranges, and golds lends itself to glorious full color illustrations depicting the changes that take place during that time of year. Susan Swan brings young eyes a bounty of fall shades as she paints leaves falling from the trees, seeds falling from the last of the sunflowers, and apples falling from branches.

True to its title author Nidey mentions falling temperatures when youngsters reach for warmer clothes, and even football players falling into the end zone.

With autumn, of course, comes Halloween and festivals and the fun that accompanies each of these events.

"When Autumn Falls" is an eye catching way for very young readers to become familiar with and learn to appreciate this special time of year.
