Product Description

This is the first comprehensive collector's identification and value guide to My Little Pony(r). These popular toys were made by Hasbro(r) from 1981 to 1991 and are attracting the interest of collectors around the world. The 300+ color photographs clearly identify over 600 My Little Ponies, some of which are extremely rare. In addition to the ponies, hundreds of related items sold under the MLP logo are shown. Written by a pony lover for pony lovers, this fun and easy-to-use guide begins by teaching the reader how to tell My Little Ponies from similar-looking toys. An introductory list of terms helps the reader to determine a particular pony's type. There are chapters on Adult Ponies (Earthlings, Unicorns, and Sea Ponies), Baby Ponies, Adult and Baby Sets, Petite Ponies, Animal Families, Pony Places and Accessories, Pony Clothes, and Pony Items. A "Came With" section features many mint-in-package ponies. A very helpful index of all the ponies featured in the book and a handy price guide with beautifully detailed photography makes this book a must for every My Little Pony lover.

Customer Reviews

A Nice Try2
"World of My Little Pony" is an unofficial guide to the original My Little Pony collectibles from the 1980's. The book does list most ponies distributed in the U.S., with pictures of each pony group, and gives estimated prices for them.

The book is poorly organized. Instead of organizing sets by year, they are split into "Adult" and "Baby" categories, and then the sets are alphabetized within those chapters. The problem is that Birge sometimes creates names for sets or ponies, so they do not appear where one would expect within the book. Much of the information is incomplete or simply wrong, especially regarding accessories. The text is often awkward, indicating poor editing. The price guide is also inaccurate, and applies prices to all ponies within a group, even though individual ponies may sell for much higher prices than other ponies from the same set.

While the pictures are clear, they are not pleasing to the eye. Many of the ponies appear to be unkempt. Sometimes they are not posed where their symbols, or identifying markers, can be seen in the photos. There was also some bizarre use of MLP accessories as props in the photos, such as using upturned cribs as stands.

Finally, the book only covers U.S.-releases. Birge's second book, often confused with this one in customer reviews, covers ponies from other parts of the world.

The book is a nice attempt, and I use it occasionally when I can't remember a pony's name. If someone needs a good introduction to MLP, however, there are many websites that offer more complete, and more accurate, information at no cost. This book simply isn't worth the price.

Great Comprehensive guide to pony collectibles5
This is a wonderful book for anybody interested in My Little Pony. These small collectibles are becoming one of the hottest items on the second hand market. If you are only a starting collector or and avid one, this book is for you. It conatins pictures of over 630 ponies, and even includes variations, pony friends, and the such. Not only are these wonderful pictures included, but so are playsets, clothing, and other collectibles such as movies, clocks, keychains, posters ect. This is a well written book and is needed for any fan. All should be greatful to the author, Debra for doing such a great job. The only thing off may be the price guide. Different collectors offer different prices. However with indexed names, it is easy to calculate your collection in no time. I reccomend this book to any pony collector!

My Little Pony--a GREAT book for the MLP Lover !5
This is a GREAT "detailed" My Little Pony Book. "The World of My Little Pony, A Guide to Pony Collectibles", is a MUST have for any MLP Lover. Although this book has only the American Ponies, the pictures of the Ponies lets you catalog your collection in no time. Find the Ponies you are missing or name the Ponies you have. There are great pictures of Ponies MIB or MIP too. There are MANY, MANY other My Little Pony items not listed but this book really gives one a better insight into the Pony World. This book does have other items pertaining to My Little Pony like the play-sets and videos, audio tapes, and Pony clothing. It also has Pony purses, sleeping bags, skates, etc. I believe you will find this book very informative. This book also has a pricing guide but REMEMBER, just because it says how much a Pony would cost in the book, prices ONLY reflect the authors view. If you need a particular pony-you will pay more...if you have 2 or 3 of the same pony laying around-you will pay less. The old adage goes here of beauty is in the eye of the beholder--the same goes for $$ amounts. The author, Debra Birge, did a Wonderful job-thank you Debra for bringing our beloved Ponies back to life.
