Final Fantasy VIIFinal Fantasy VII
Buy used from: $39.99
Oh man! Squaresoft out did themselves when they invented like some of the best characters the series has ever seen. The character's were so life like and compelling that when one of them suddenly got killed, it tugged even my old heart strings! Yeah that good. Even better? The main villain! So bad I almost wished he'd suceeded. Trust me, GET THIS GAME!!!
Final Fantasy AnthologyFinal Fantasy Anthology
Buy new: $16.99 / Used from: $9.67
A reproduction of two Super Nintendo classics, the anthology includes FFV and FFVI. I recommend this title because it's easy to find compared with the actual SNES versions. You get both classics for like the price of one, plus they are the same game as they previously were on the SNES. The only change is console platforms and the Sony controller.
Final Fantasy VIFinal Fantasy VI
Buy used from: $8.99
A great game that sounds just as great to me as it always had before on that tiny GBA speaker. The storyline got deeper in this one from FFV, and we have a TON of characters all with their own stories. The character models themselves got a noticable facelift from the other SNES to GBA FF titles. But I really love the music here. I feel like the music really did this one some justice.
Final Fantasy V AdvanceFinal Fantasy V Advance
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $11.55
The characters were really not too convincing here. The story, ah... alright I guess. But the gameplay is rock solid. It's probably the deepest of the Advance series here in fact. The job system offers countless ways to enjoy that next battle. It's weird but this game hooks you in even without any real story driven motivations. Traces of the job system can be found in many RPG's to this day.
Final Fantasy IV AdvanceFinal Fantasy IV Advance
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $6.99
I remeber when I were a teen how I thought it was neat seeing romance plots develope in a videogame. I guess that's why I remeber this one so much. A real good story here with some nice perky tunes to get you in the combat groove. I enjoyed lvln' up to like a god status and killing off late game enemies in one or two shots. Maybe you will too!
Final Fantasy Chronicles (Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV)Final Fantasy Chronicles (Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV)
Buy new: $16.99 / Used from: $11.95
Final Fantasy IV was nice but Chrono Trigger was the cream on the pie in this one. You'll like the origonal story plot which takes you through time to save a world from this alien parasitic force. A nice diversion from the charming knight saves princess gig. The Battle system was pure gravy too, and it comes complete with new anime movie sequences! Good times this one trust me!
Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Compilation Pack (DVD-ROM)Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Compilation Pack (DVD-ROM)
Buy new: $18.99 / Used from: $13.90
If you can hack the Advanced dungeons and dragons stuff, you'll love this. Neverwinter Nights like most games of it's kind have some of the deepest character plots seen in any RPG. Part of what makes this special is how much control it gives you in deciding how to be what YOU want to be, not what's scripted. As if that's not enough, try your hand in making your own RPG using it's in game tool set!
Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of AmnBaldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $1.40
With the powerful AD&D 3rd eddition system in place, the level of control over your character is amazing. You can be any sort of personality you like. Then you can build a fighter around that persona. The storyline is so deep and the music fits the bill. I don't think there has been any other type of RPG that took me over hundreds of hours to finish, while keeping my interests so high.
Icewind Dale Ultimate CollectionIcewind Dale Ultimate Collection
Buy used from: $45.00
This is borderline Baldur's Gate 2 for the PC with a different story. But if your like me and couldn't get enough even after Baldur's gate, then this one does quite nicely.
Diablo Battle ChestDiablo Battle Chest
Buy used from: $23.99
It's hack n' slash for the PC but to an epic level. You get Diablo 2 and it's expansion pack, a Brady games guide, AND you get the origonal Diablo! The games themselves offer dozens of hours of character development and thousands of magical, rare, and unique items. You can take it online multiplayer style for free.
Castlevania: Symphony of the NightCastlevania: Symphony of the Night
Buy used from: $39.70
Castlevania was the bomb just being a classic 2-d side scroll adventure. But being able to strengthen our character by leveling up or trying on stronger gear? Epic success! This may well be the finest Castlevania in creation.
Final Fantasy TacticsFinal Fantasy Tactics
Buy used from: $34.99
It's Final Fantasy in a battle simulation setting. And believe me, there is nothing lackluster about this spinoff either. You get all the summons techniques, the magic spells, and yes, even the chocobo is here and ready for your command in battle!
Tactics OgreTactics Ogre
Buy used from: $24.72
Another juicy battle strategy title which may well be the best of it's class on the GBA. It's well balanced, features nice graphics and decent tunes, and a good story too.
Baldur's Gate: Dark AllianceBaldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Buy used from: $5.00
Nothing like the PC title bearing it's name. This one focuses in on the combat engine and is effectively hack n' slash. Very deep character development as far as combat goes. Very challenging as well.
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2
Buy used from: $43.89
Basically the same as Dark Alliance but more, more, more. And more is always good when you can never get enough the first time around.
XenosagaXenosaga
Buy used from: $8.74
Namco picked up ex- squarsoft development team "Monolith software". They were the team that did the Xenogears title on the PSX. Xenogears is like in that same universe but totaly unique too. It's a looooong one and I mean long! Tons of movies and dialogue. But if you love stories like me then this is for you!
Xenosaga Episode IIXenosaga Episode II
Buy used from: $7.97
Why stop at episode one? Part two dares to challenge the first one in terms of longivity and overall feature, while adding something new. The story links to part one and is the direct prequal to...
Xenosaga Episode IIIXenosaga Episode III
Buy used from: $22.98
... Xenosaga III!! The only draw back to this series is that they are heavily reliant on one another, as they are a trilogy. So you gotta get all 3 episodes to fully enjoy the saga. But I have a feeling that if part I was good enough for you, then you'll have no problem getting them all anyway!
Secret of EvermoreSecret of Evermore
Buy used from: $9.99
Oh I know! Why did I have to get all oldschool now right? Cause this game rules! It's a real time RPG with a unique "alchemy" system. You cast spells by finding ingrediants rather than collecting Magic points. And the more you cast, the stronger they get! I liked that set up for a change.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven StarsSuper Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Buy used from: $32.50
It'sa me Shaunrio woohoo!!! okaayyyyyy! Anyways, this game is awesome! It features your boy Mario going on one of his first epic RPG quests on the SNES. Think in terms of Mario & Luigi for the GBA and you got it as far as combat goes. It had pretty graphics considering the year was 1995 too.
Beyond OasisBeyond Oasis
Buy used from: $12.49
A classic you don't wanna miss. Yes I'm getting all Sega on you now but for a good reason! It's basically a real time RPG quest. If you still own a Sega or wanna get one, pick this game up for it.
Skies of Arcadia : LegendsSkies of Arcadia : Legends
Buy used from: $25.93
Yes the Cube's got RPG's too. And this one was like one of it's best. It features classic turn based combat plus new airship to airship combat! You can take a break from saving the world by finding legendary discoveries or even going on bounty hunt quests! Get this!!
Final Fantasy: Crystal ChroniclesFinal Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
Buy used from: $4.12
If you have all the friends and gear to make it happen then check this stuff out. You and your homies will be combining to pull off timed spells, solving puzzles, dungeon crawing, and finding and trading cool scrolls and gear. This is an excellent team effort emphasized RPG you can't miss if you have all the pieces in place to do it.
Legend of Zelda Four Swords AdventuresLegend of Zelda Four Swords Adventures
Buy used from: $16.00
Another one of those "team effort" sorta RPG games. But this one is a Zelda series title and so it's more action and puzzle solving than character building. Still, it's much more easily accessed than FF Crystal Chronicles is. Much quicker paced too if you wanna dip in and out. Sinlge player is far superior in this one too.
XenogearsXenogears
Buy used from: $50.00
Too much I could say about this game and a scant 400 characters with which to say it, doesn't lend this game it's due justice! The storylines are epic here and the combat system is very unique. You battle in character form or as a massive robot unit which you can maintain and upgrade much like a vehicle. Just stop reading and get it!
Chrono CrossChrono Cross
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $13.99
Time travel is a thing of the past left to the SNES's Chrono Trigger. You travel between alternate dimmensions resembling the same world now! This game is sweet!
Gauntlet: Dark LegacyGauntlet: Dark Legacy
Buy used from: $15.75
Sometimes we just don't want epic but we need something juicy. Gauntlet For the Nintendo Gamecube is just all that. Nothing to it really, you just mangle and hack away at stuff while obtaining EXP and lvln up. The Nintendo version offers some sweet content not found on the PS2, and offers another reason to fire up that tiny machine too!
