Product Description
SA-DX1050 top-end receiver gives you multi-channel home theater surround sound with outstanding audio reproduction, even handling the ultra-high fidelity of DVD-Audio. In order to handle this, a receiver must be equipped with an amplifier circuit that can do justice to its wide frequency range and outstanding S/N ratio. This receiver is built accordingly, with the correct features to let you enjoy this thrilling next-generation audio experience. It has an amp power module that features an all-stage MOS-FET configuration. With most amplifiers, output is controlled by its input current, but MOS-FETs use voltage control to get an outstanding high-frequency response. This gives you an incredibly dynamic range of audio.SA-DX1050 comes with a Dolby Digital/DTS decoder so you can experience the 5.1-channel digital soundtrack encoded on a DVD or laserdisc. With this decoder, you'll enjoy a remarkably natural sense of ambiance and dynamic realism. This receiver uses the Technics Times 5 concept, which provides the five main channels of your system with a total of 500W of Class H+ amplifier output. This means that when you watch movies recorded with Dolby Digital or DTS audio, you get a full reproduction of what the movie sounded like in the theater. The use of Japanese TA-KE (bamboo) fiber contributes to the remarkable clarity and neutral sound. Low audible distortion helps provide excellent high-range transparency, as well as mid-range fidelity. Technics TA-KE audiophile capacitors bring you dynamic, lifelike sound that preserves the delicate nuances of musical expression.

Customer Reviews
Good quality for the buck!
This unit replaced my 6 year old H/K that had regular 'Pro Logic'. What a difference! ... sound quality and setup features are great. The 'Simulated Surround Sound' does great with old movies -- watched the original "King Kong" last night... was great to have the rear channels making understandable sound, not just some muffled noise. The remote is nice too! ... is able to control most necessary functions for my JVC S-VHS, Sony Wega TV, and Digital Cable box. The rear `switched' outlet is a nice feature built into the system - switches power on/off when you do a power-off/on with the remote.
Nothing Special
I purchased the Technics based on the good words of Consumer Reports. If I had no stereo equipment, I might consider it a good deal at a good price. Unfortunately, my $... Teac AV receiver from Costco seems to be the equal of the Technics. My 11 year old Yamaha integrated Dolby surround sound amp is certainly it's superior.
The back panel is well laid out, with a good number of connections. However, setup is not as easy or intuitive as one would hope for.
If budget is a concern, with the $... rebate, this is probably a decent buy. However, I think there are other alternatives that might be considered as better choices.
Excellent unit! Great performance.
I have this unit for over 3 years now and I am more than happy with it. It is the central unit of my Technics home theathre system. The good number of digital ports (including one coax, as well as the optical ones) allows the connection of a comprehensive set of devices to it (I use the coax-digital to connect my laptop into teh unit, for instance). The unit drives the 5 speakers + subwoofer unit very well. I am most definitively happy with this unit and should take quite a while until I think about replacing it.
