The HTR-5490 is a full-featured home theater receiver ready for all formats and for custom installation. It delivers high power to six channels and provides DTS ES, Neo 6 and DTS ES Matrix 6.1 decoding as well as Dolby Digital 6.1 and Dolby Pro Logic II decoding. Yamaha's proprietary ASIC LSI, the 32-bit YSS-938, assures top quality audio performance. The amp delivers 80 watts each to six channels. Yamaha's exclusive Tri-Field Cinema DSP imaging for video sound and Digital Sound Field Processing for music delivers the most realistic and dramatic sound possible. The HTR-5490 features 22 different sound programs that provide a total of 44 variations, so every movie and every piece of music will sound right in your home theater.The HTR-5490's newly designed remote control features a large LCD display, illuminated keys, preset commands, and learning capability. The receiver's 60 MHz component video bandwidth means that your picture will retain its clarity and sharpness. Dolby Surround Pro Logic II format provides 5.1-channel surround from any stereo source. Great for casual listening and parties, Yamaha's 6-channel stereo DSP puts music through all speakers in the system and maintains stereo imaging. Virtual Cinema DSP provides a realistic surround multi-channel surround experience using only two speakers. The built-in 5-band graphic equalizer can be adjusted so that the center speaker tonal quality matches that of the left and right main speakers. On-screen display allows you to easily establish, change, and adjust settings from across the room. The on-screen display for composite and S-video gives you a visual readout of the receiver's settings on your TV or monitor screen. Subwoofer output allows you to add a subwoofer. Up to 40 preset AM and FM stations can be grouped in five groups eight stations. These groupings make it easy for family members to easily access their favorite stations or to have musical genres, such as all the jazz stations, grouped together.

For the $$, it cannot be beat
This is an extremely affordable DTS receiver that gives great sound, is extremely expandable. It has grown with our system nicely, is simple to use, but can be tailored as needed. In terms of value for your dollar the Yamaha receivers cannot be beat. IF money is not factor, then they are still close to the top.

Great Mid-Price DTS Receiver
The Yamaha HTR-5490 is extremely versatile, has clean, dynamic sound and sports a very reasonable price price. This receiver is the best mid-range receiver period. I love it. I've gone home from work early every day this week to listen to it. Plus with 6 channel input, it has room to grow in the future.


Great Yamaha sound (i.e, very loud with a lower watt rating), tons of inputs and outputs, which are fully assignable, Yamaha quality, on screen programming, expandability, very clean, minimalist front.

My one beef is the remote is not backlit, and you need a s-video or composite video connection for the on-screen programming.
