`In a highly readable and enjoyable style, Diana Whitmore achieves her goal of providing not only a basic introduction to the practice of psychosynthesis but a work which enriches and expands its tradition' - Changes

The Third Edition of this best-selling book provides a clear and accessible introduction to the principles and techniques of psychosynthesis, and explains how the counsellor or psychotherapist can incorporate these elements into their own work with clients.

Based on the need for humans to find a more positive meaning to their lives, Psychosynthesis Counselling in Action guides the reader through the journey to `selfhood'. Taking the reader through the four main stages of the counselling journey, the author explains the wide range of practical methods available to practitioners, and how to tailor these to different client needs.

Psychosynthesis Counselling in Action is illustrated throughout with examples from practice, and includes an in-depth case study at the end of the book. It will be invaluable for those seeking an introduction to psychosynthesis, as well as practitioners of other orientations who wish to incorporate this approach into their own therapeutic work.

Praise for the First Edition:

`A clear and thorough guide to the early, middle and final stages of therapy, accompanied by an exposition of the major contributions of Psychosynthesis theory, such as inner identity and subpersonalities, and working with the will and transpersonal qualities... Because the function of the counsellor is given unusually close treatment, it is an excellent book for any practitioners who want to refresh or enlarge their approach. Assagioli's view has long been ahead of its time: this book will help to close the gap' - Resurgence

`In a highly readable and enjoyable style, Whitmore achieves her goal of providing not only a basic introduction to the practice of psychosynthesis but a work which enriches and expands its tradition, contributing to the technique, context and philosophy of counsellors who provide "an opportunity to work more creatively with the redemption of pain and the evocation of potential" - Changes Bookshop News

Many thanks Diana5
Whitmore, Diana (2004) Psychosynthesis Counselling in Action, Third Edition, London, Sage Publications

This book is a `breath of fresh air'. The ease with which Diana writes, and the visual images she portrays, gives us a direction forward into our own healing and the immanent healing of our planet.

Being the 3rd edition, Diana has taken the time to bring this book of knowledge into the new millennium and its paradigm, fraught with difficulties requiring immediate assistance and enlightenment...and, enlighten us she does as she walks us through transcendence/immanence and the search for the lost Self, union with the greater whole, and the fostering of personal as well as transpersonal psychosynthesis.

This book is about Psychosynthesis Counselling and Diana gives us the natural assumptions, showing us the unfolding skills and interplay between the counsellor and the client. She showers us with the practical skills necessary for a therapeutic relationship and includes the space of true acceptance, a practice said to be extremely rare.

If you have ever found yourself lacking in the ability to communicate psychosynthesis to others you will enjoy the way this book expresses, with simplicity and ease of flow, the tenets of an effective psychosynthesis relationship.

This book is a `must read' for anyone who is willing to walk through this world consciously and interact in a meaningful way with other human beings. It is not a replacement for a good training center, but rather an enhancement and enrichment for those walking this path.
