Editorial Reviews

Album Description
"Perfectly skewed rock." -- New York Times "Sharp, smart stoner-rock!" -- Rolling Stone "[Lovers, Lead the Way is] one stunner of an album." -- Pitchfork [7.6]

Anita & Kevin Robinson have been making music as Viva Voce for nearly a decade. Their landmark albums Lovers, Lead the Way and The Heat Can Melt Your Brain are now finally reissued in this 2XCD release. Originally released in 2003 and 2004 respectively, both albums have long been out of print. Now they are together at last, available with bonus material, live favorites, unreleased tracks, and original demos. This is the release old fans and new converts have been waiting for!Viva Voce has been a constant presence and a driving force in indie rock since the group first started making music. Touring relentlessly, receiving accolades, and sharing the stage with compatriots Built to Spill, Death Cab For Cutie, Steve Malkmus, and Sleater Kinney, Viva Voce are signed with indie powerhouse Barsuk Records, who recently released Get Yr Blood Sucked Out to international acclaim. Recent fans The Shins asked Anita to sing on their latest record, Wincing the Night Away. The tracks she sang on became their largest hits, which landed her alongside the band on Saturday Night Live, the Late Show with David Letterman, and Late Night with Conan O'Brian. Currently, Viva Voce is recording the follow-up to Get Yr Blood Sucked Out, and will once again hit the international touring circuit in a few short months.

Customer Reviews

Rare and refreshing5
Stumbled upon this band through pandora. I thumbed up one of their songs and would have left it at that until a collected some free MP3 downloads and went searching for someone new to listen to.

Anyway, these albums are true hidden gems. Viva Voce is one of those acts that sounds original and familiar at the same time. Their sound employs clean, well-textured soundscapes with smokey vocals that's chill and engaging at the same time, intermittently injected with rock melodies to lend some fun and energy- it would have been very easy to let the music slip into samey-ness but Viva has the foresight to develop hooks and mix-ups to keep things from sounding samey. Basically this is the type of music you feel proud to have experienced for yourself. Check 'em out- the 30 seconds samples don't do these folks justice!

Reccomended tracks: Lesson No. 1, The Lucky Ones, Wrecking Ball

Greatness to the Second power5
I love the heat can melt your brain album, but due to availability I was unable to hear lovers lead the way. Both albums are great. I put them on while I cook or just need background tunes. Worth the buy.
