Amazon.com Product Description
Fulfill your need for speed with this Timex Expedition Premium Collection chronograph watch, which features a bezel with an engraved tachymeter to help you measure time over distance. Its rugged construction makes for a very practical watch for any adventure, and the chronograph stopwatch can measure events down to 1/20 of a second. The large, round watch case measures 40mm wide (1.57 inches), and it's complemented by a sporty, water-resistant leather strap. Other features include luminous hands, an easy-set alarm (rotate inner bezel to set alarm time), and water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet)--offering protection from accidental splashes as well suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and light recreational diving.
The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer. The Night Mode feature allows you to illuminate the Indiglo night-light for 3 seconds with any button press, regardless of the mode or function.
Timex Brand
The Timex Watch Company
Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico.
The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.
During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches.
The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality.
One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo® lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.
Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

Customer Reviews
Nice Watch
Pros: Works as advertised. Smooth operation: buttons and crowns are big and easy to push, pull, and turn. Easy to set alarm. Easy time zone changes. Chronograph functions. Split time feature. Quartz accuracy. Dial flashes when alarm sounds. Looks even better than the picture.
Cons: Dial contrast is not as pronounced as in picture, which makes it a little harder to see the hands without my glasses than I anticipated, but I can manage. Alarm is too quiet for me to hear in most circumstances, but I do have a profound high-frequency hearing loss. Young people won't be bothered by either of these issues.
I'm satisfied with the watch. It looks good and has good features.
Overall, a quality, high-tech look and function in a watch that is accurate, affordable and from a company that has a reputation for durable watches. Status hounds, look elsewhere.
Hadley Roma sells a black stainless bracelet that will fit this watch, but they also sell high-quality deployant clasps to fit the leather band, for those who don't particularly like buckled bands.
One more thing, if you don't read the instructions before you begin playing with the watch functions, you will think the watch is defective. The watch requires some simple to perform calibrations for the chronograph dials to function properly.
Stylish, Sturdy & Functional At a Great Price...
To be honest, I am not a watch person. I stopped wearing watches as an adult since it seemed in my suit-and tie world the watch always caught on my sleeve cuff all day long. Plus, in this digital age there are clocks everywhere. Recently I have purchased a couple of ultra-thin dress watches for business.
However, I seemed to have a need for a casual "sport-type" watch and this Timex Expedition fit the bill. I'm not a watch snob and the Timex name and quality is fine by me. The watch is very sturdy and keeps excellent time as one would expect with any watch. To my eye, the black on black of this model is very appealing. This is a great looking watch. In making this purchase I decided that I would try a chronograph because there have been a few occasions where I thought it would be handy to have this ability. I used it once already for that function and it was great to have the chrono dials. Plus, what the heck, they look cool. The Indiglo night light function and alarm settings are a nice plus.
All in all, a really nice looking functional watch at a great price.
One caveat however...and it has to do with my earlier comment about the sleeve cuff issue. Forget wearing this rather thick watch with a dress shirt. I even have problems with casual button up shirts with sleeves and cuff buttons. I am sitting here writing this with the buttons on my sleeve cuff unbuttoned. When buttoned first, even at the "loose" button, I cannot get the shirt over the watch. If I button the cuff after I put the watch on I can't get the cuff over the watch to see the time! I guess this watch, or those similar in thickness, are only meant to wear with short-sleeve shirts or stretch buttonless shirts.
Beautiful watch!
This watch is beautiful! The picture does not do it justice. It is easy to set up...by following the directions contained in the booklet, which is an easy read. This watch is accurate, user friendly, and appealing to the eye. I need to add that the Indiglo lights up the black face very well, making it easy to tell the time. In fact, you can see all of the dials, which is incredible. This was the one concern that I had and it kept me from buying this watch originally. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well the face was lit. This watch is a steal at this price!
Thank you Grady for your review...it helped sell me on this watch.
