Good information
We are implementing AS9100 and needed some more details on the actions required to proceed. This book offered some more deatail and a helpful checklist to ensure your on the right track. It did not have all the detail I would have liked, but it was a quick read and helpfull guide for the basics.
I'm not sure this book is even a primer... you'll need to buy something more detailed.
The best thing about this book is that it tells you to focus on the positive reasons for getting ISO certified... that having a good quality system mindset will give you a better quality company.
It is pretty light on any practical "How-To" info. Maybe I was just dissapointed because it seems to be focused on how to work with consultants. I was able to make it to the checklist, but never saw anything that would actually help me set up a practical quality system.
It would be nice to do things right from the beginning. Is there ANYTHING out there that a small manufacturing firm can use from start-up to ISO?
Have GOT to remember to write these reviews for the good books too!
Not Much Help...
I bought this book to help me figure out the steps to implementing ISO into my company since I have never done it and feel a bit over my head here.
I am very glad the company paid for it instead of me because I am not finding much help and that's why I am back in here looking at more books on implementation.
35 pages of this book are dedicated to a "self assessment checklist" that is just like what you can find for free online if you do a search for "Gap Analysis"
The book in my opinion offers a great "history lesson" on the standard which is not too useful to me from an implementation viewpoint...
It has "Simple Iplementation Steps" on page 31 that has listed things like "understand the process approach", "Develop documents and implement for new requirements", etc, however does not tell the reader how to do these type of activities anywhere in the book...
It was pretty much a waste of my time and company money, so I hope the next book I turn to for help will offer me a bit more "hands on" instruction and less 'gap analysis'(which I completed weeks ago without the help of this book)
