Customer Reviews
Exquisite!
"Raw Silk" is one of my all-time favorite albums (Randy is one of my favorite artists and "Everything Must Change" and "Windsong" are also among my all-time favs). Randy Crawford has always chosen quality songs, lyrically and musically, and her vocals are always on and her sincerity come through but this album just topped everything for me. It's her third album and she proved, to me, that three's the charm. It starts with the song selection.I could praise all of the songs but certain ones are highlights. Her Etta James influenced vocals couldn't shine more than on "I Stand Accused". "Newborn Child" has such emotion and the lyrics are so heartfelt. I hit total rapture with "Just To Keep You Satisfied". This lesser known Marvin Gaye classic is done with such subtle intensity that I get chills whenever I play it. Her perfectly understated vocals elevate the second time that she sings the line "You see I've never loved nobody like I loved you baby" and I feel like I've gone to vocal heaven!
The Best
My first introduction to Randy Crawford was the record (remember those?) Raw Silk. A friend played it for me and I picked up my own copy soon after that.
Being a young WASP guy in his 20's at the time my usual listening tastes were Huey Lewis, Howard Jones, The Thompson Twins, etc., but when I sat down and listened to her voice it seriously moved me on a very deep level.
For anyone who loves music performed in it's purest sense, pick up Randy Crawford. She is amazing.
CLASSIC
Never thought I'd find this. Randy Crawford's 'Raw Silk' has been on my wish list for years. To find it here? Thank you Amazon.
