Surprise! No Rado warranty on internet purchases
I bought a beautiful Rado watch from Amazon.com at a very good price. The transaction was easy and delivery was quick. So far,so good. On day one, I tried to set the time, and the stem knob broke off. So I called the closest factory approved service center to ask how to get it in for repair. Surprise! "I'm sorry, Rado does not warranty any items purchased over the internet." Period...end of discussion. I called Amazon to inquire and was told Amazon provides ITS OWN warranty. Surprise #2: their warranty covers the watch mechanism only, with does NOT include bracelets, bands, clasps, cases, crowns, STEMS, etc. etc. Further, the Amazon warranty would'nt apply until after the 30-day return window. Why didn't I think of that...return it! Had to hurry, I was already at 28 days. Got online, printed out return paperwork and shipping labels. Started reading the fine print: Learned there would be no replacement, only a refund. BUT, Surprise #3...the item has to be in "as new" condition, which kinda ruled out my busted stem. Looks like I'll have to pay for the repair. I thought, oh well, it's still cheaper than retail, but I'm feeling a little ripped off. Now, I'm thinking Amazon could have worked something out. This was a brand new watch, and on the first wearing, it fails. Why am I on the hook for what seems to be a defective item? Unfortunately, each person has his or her own little set of rules, so the return guy can't talk about warranty, and vice versa. So, off to the local watch repair shop. Happy to help, for about $350 and a month or so to wait. I'm pretty disappointed with the whole deal. Very complicated and no resolution.

Pleased after initial problems
I just received this watch and on first impressions, it is beautiful, elegant and light. (It weighs far less than the 1.8 pounds mentioned in the product description. That weight includes the excellent packaging that the watch comes in) This is a watch you and others will admire. It feels great on the wrist.

But I had initial problems. The watch did not come with specific instructions for this model watch. And I have never owned a Rado before. The general instructions that came with the watch gave the impression that to set it, you first pulled out the crown once then once again. However after nearly, yanking the crown off trying to get it out to the second position, I decided to take it to a Rado shop. Here I discovered position 1 for the crown is actually the normal unextended position and position 2 is one pull out. In order to run the watch through its various modes, you simply twirl the crown quickly clockwise in the unextended position and set it in a particular mode with one tug out. The Rado shop also took out one link of the bracelet since there were no specific instructions included on how to do this.

You just have to remember when reading these instructions, that position 1 for the crown is the normal unextended position.

Now I have a watch that I can work and that feels wonderful on my wrist. I can add that it's also a sturdy watch, because it did not break after all the tugging I did on the crown, trying to pull it out to a place it would not go. If I had not had these initial problems, I would be inclined to give the watch 5 stars.
