A Gem of a Book
Outstanding cookbook, with easy fun recipes. Not only is it fun to cook from, it is a lot of fun to read. Jaden Hair imparts her unique personality onto each page of the book. So far I've made about 5 things and they all have been rave worthy and will all be made again and again!
A real cookbook for home cooks
I received this highly-anticipated cookbook yesterday afternoon and was very happy to find out that it exceeds all my expectations. This cookbook is real. It's not perfect but it is friendly and accessible. Reading through the headnote of the recipes, I feel like a dear friend is teaching me how to cook and how to eat better. There is nothing pretentious about it, and that alone makes this cookbook unique and appealing.
Most of the cookbooks out in the market are glorified by food stylists and food photographers--this is not a bad thing because cookbooks are meant to appeal to the potential readers at first sight, but they tend to be too perfect and "cold." The recipes are almost too pretty for everyday cooking. The author of this book learned how to take food photography herself and all the photos in the cookbook was done by her. As a result, it really makes me want to rush to the kitchen and start cooking.
All in all though, I think this is a great cookbook done in a very casual "conversational" style with real-life food photography and everyday Asian recipes.
Gorgeous...Yummy...Funny...THE Holiday Gift to give this year!
I was lucky enough to see an advance copy of Jaden Hair's Steamy Kitchen Cookbook and it is spectacular. Beautiful photography (Jaden herself shot the food...and then served the dishes to her family, so this is not fake, styled food) and exciting layout make this a coffee-table worthy book...but be sure to take it into the kitchen and use it for the terrific recipes. Jaden is a wonderful writer and hilariously irreverent, so having this book as your kitchen companion will make dinner prep a lot more fun. You may know Jaden from her wildly popular food blog or her newspaper column in The Tampa Trib or her TV appearances...this book brings it all together, PLUS. This is her first cookbook, but I'll bet it won't be her last. She's on her way to stardom...discover her NOW and enjoy the fun of making delish Asian food easily. I'm giving a copy of The Steamy Kitchen Cookbook to all my favorite people this Christmas.
