Elegant Dinnerware
I looked online and in retail stores for a long time to find perfectly elegant, simple, and affordable white dinnerware for our table. I am utterly delighted with the beauty of these simple and timeless pieces. The creamy white finish is pleasing to the eye as well as the touch. Like the previous reviewer, I was disappointed to receive four pieces made in Spain which were slightly different in thickness, diameter, and finish from the German pieces. I complained to Amazon and was offered either a refund or a 15% discount, but I persisted and ultimately Amazon replaced the pieces at no charge to me.

Nice with great potential but some problems-keep reading.
I am on the fence with this dinnerware. I have been looking for a long time for dishes that were a nice, attractive white. These fit the bill. They are not the same sterile white that porcelain white dishes are, but they are a little whiter than the off-white that Pfaltzgraff calls white. So they're bright, but creamy, and very attractive. They are modern with clean lines, but much less expensive than similar sets at classy cooking stores. However, there are some weird issues. I ordered 8 of these sets, and pieces do not match from set to set or even necessarily within sets. 5 dinner plates say Waechtersbach Fun Factory Made in Germany on the back, and 3 say just Waechtersbach Made in Spain, and my salad plates are 6 from Spain and 2 from Germany. I actually hate the Fun Factory label (kind of cheesy rather than classy), but THAT is not the issue. The size of the plates and the color are slightly different, both in thickness and in diameter. (The bowls and cups are perfect, no complaints). SO if I can get Amazon and/or the company to cooperate, I will have a nice set of dishes (otherwise, I'll just be really annoyed). At that point, I'd say 4 stars, but I can't say more until I know how they hold up to daily use. FYI, although the site doesn't say it or the German dishes, the dishes made in Spain say microwave safe on them.

Fantastic, with a caveat
I've had the Waechtersbach set pictured (purchased in a department store) for about a year now. I love the stunning yellow color, which should have been called sunflower yellow. I searched high and low for a latte cup with an elegant shape in a casual, vibrant-colored set of dishes, and this set fits the bill perfectly. They are also much lighter in weight than other stoneware. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that it chips very easily in the dishwasher, so you have to be extra careful placing these dishes so they don't knock against anything.
