Macally Protection Shell for Macbook (BookShellR) 4
The shell is definitely a worthwhile investment.

I've received numerous compliments regarding its appearance and how it helps to "personalize" our work-issued computers. I purchased this specific shell because it was on sale for half off making it somewhat affordable, whereas the other shells were forty and fifty dollars a piece. First off, I think that's entirely too much to ask for these things no matter what they're made of, but secondly, I was NOT about to pay that much to purchase a shell for a computer that wasn't even mine (I'm a school teacher, and it's my district's computer). So, I found the least expensive thing and went with it.

The design of the product is perfect. It fits snugly around the MacBook I have and all of the ports are easily available. Sometimes, I have to lift up the left side of the computer to get USB plugs in their proper holes, whereas before I could always do it without looking. The slight overhang on the shell makes that difficult sometimes. But, so what? So I have to look now. It doesn't really take any more time than it used to.

The shell does limit how much you can open the screen. Sometimes I'll have my computer on a tabletop in front of me, and I'll hike the screen back pretty far so I can see it from across the room while giving presentations in class, taking roll, or anything else you would do while actually standing over the computer. The shell reduces the angle to which the screen can be completely opened. This probably isn't an issue for most people. I realize that I use my laptop in somewhat "odd" ways.

I have noticed that the computer seems to get warmer. Between the shell and the keyboard mat I've got (little rubber thing that keeps dust and stuff out of the keys) and the fact that I leave it on A LOT, that poor little thing can heat up. During semester closeout, when we were all working on them so hard and heavy, I actually had to take the bottom part of the shell off to expose the battery pack, but then again my computer had been on for a week solid. The vents are not covered up, and normal usage should not cause it to heat up like mine did. I honestly think the keyboard mat was equally at fault (because I removed that as well and things started to cool off faster).

So, overall, it's a great little shell. The leather stops it from sliding around my desk and doesn't get scratched up like a plastic one would have with my "hardcore" usage of the computer. I recommend this product to anyone who really uses their MacBook heavily for sure, but it adds a nice flair for the casual user as well.

Love my Macally Protection Shell5
Thanks to the English teacher review above. Your review helped me decide that this is the ONE as opposed to the plastic shelling casings that others are selling and the Red is awesome! (much more of a stand out than black). The cover has a snug fit and holds it in place with a little overlap (four on the screen top and two on the bottom piece for the keyboard). As the other review had mentioned, it does limit the extension angle of the screen, thus 110 degree is about as far back as it goes. The only minor drawback I had was that I also purchased a silicone keypad protector and now the protector is not flushed at the palm rest area because the Macally proctor and the silicone wrap are competing for the same space. I am hesistant to push too hard because I am afraid of ruining either products. Eh, I can live with it given my true intention is to protect the Macbook.

looks nice but not functional2
The case does not allow opening of the laptop past 90 degrees. It also does not allow easy access to the USB and other ports. The leather case looks nice and the color is good, but it just isn't functional.
