From Booklist
Expanding upon material in The Tiniest Giants: Discovering Dinosaur Eggs (1999), this more up-to-date title is geared for slightly older readers. It begins with the authors' serendipitous discovery of a major dinosaur nesting ground in Argentina's Patagonian desert. The eggs, buried in mud, meant that we had stumbled across the scene of a long-forgotten catastrophe. But what had caused it, and who were the victims? Upon identifying the fossils as Titanosaur remains, the authors go on to describe in dense, specific detail what the evidence has so far revealed or implied about the huge creatures' identity, nesting behavior, embryonic development, predators, and the cause of the eggs' destruction. Despite small, sometimes uninformative illustrations and a tangential chapter on the unlikelihood of cloning dinosaurs à la Jurassic Park, this entry in the Discovery! series remains a valuable, unusually authoritative presentation for serious students of prehistoric life. A scholarly bibliography concludes, as well as a list of book and Web resources. Peters, John

This is not only a riveting book of discovery, it is also one of mystery!
Luis, Lowell and Rodolfo were out fossil hunting in southern Argentina. Naturally they hoped they would be successful, but what they found would stun them. They were looking at what they thought were simply "grayish brown rocks," but after a closer look they realized they had unknowingly made an amazing discovery. They were looking at dinosaur eggs and there were "hundreds of them." What they found was "an immense dinosaur nesting ground" that had been there for "more than 70 million years!" They named the area Auca Mahuevo.
They had discovered "a truly spectacular new fossil site," but they needed to proceed with care and caution to even begin to answer questions that kept popping into their heads. It was going to be a daunting, but joyous chore. First of all they need to know when "the dinosaurs [laid] their eggs at Auca Mahuevo." In this book you will learn about Earth's geologic history, how the paleontologists were able to date the site, what kind of dinosaur laid the eggs, how dinosaurs are identified, the exciting discovery found inside one of these eggs, how paleontologists are able to classify eggs, you'll read about the tedious mapping of where each egg was found and much more! This is not only a book of discovery, it is also one of mystery!
This is a dream book for the young dinosaur fan. In order to receive the most enjoyment out of it, the young reader should already be well versed in the different types of dinosaurs and previous information already known about them. If not, the excitement of this discovery will send youngsters scurrying back to the books to learn more about them. This was an riveting book from the very first page and doesn't disappoint the reader as he or she moves along. There are numerous photographs, illustrations and informative sidebars scattered throughout the book. In the back there is an excellent glossary, index and additional recommended book and website resources. This is an extra exciting book any dinosaur fan will love to have!
