A suprisingly well-written and entertaining book by a man of extraordinary generosity and humor. He knew the courage it takes to oppose one's own country in time of war.

Rudyard Kipling Collected Short Stories (The Great Author Series)Rudyard Kipling Collected Short Stories (The Great Author Series) by Rudyard Kipling

This is the first time I have picked up Kipling. His short stores are wonderful! For fun, I can recommend "Mrs. Hausbee Sits Out". For something deeper, "The Finest Story in the World".

The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (Signet Classics)The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (Signet Classics) by Victor Hugo
Buy new: $5.95 / Used from: $2.53
An oldie but a goodie. Les Miserables comes in at close second.
Master and CommanderMaster and Commander by Patrick O'Brian
Buy used from: $5.40
O'Brien's saga is wonderfully written with beautiful, fluid prose, and very-well researched. I even have the cookbook, "Lobscouse and Spotted Dog" which sets out recipes to all of the foods referred to in O'Brien's novels...admittedly, not all are appealing (Millers Stew...ugh).
The Four Just Men - Edgar WallaceThe Four Just Men - Edgar Wallace by Edgar Wallace
Buy new: $14.95 / Used from: $5.94
When this was originally published, it was without the final chapter - set in about 1900's crime fighters/anarchists who took the law into their own hands (but cerebral). There was a competition to guess the method by which the Secretary of State was murdered - a good, fun read.
Blind CornerBlind Corner by Dornford Yates
Buy new: $14.95 / Used from: $7.48
A great treasure hunt sent in 1920s Austria. I love this author and would recommend any of his books.
Three Men in a Boat: (To Say Nothing of the Dog) (Dover Value Editions)Three Men in a Boat: (To Say Nothing of the Dog) (Dover Value Editions) by Jerome K. Jerome
Buy new: $5.95 / Used from: $4.04
Three men and their dog take a trip up the Thames in 1890s. This is definitely one of the funniest stories ever written.
