One of the most accessible histories of science, great biographical info on scientists mixed with science. He argues in a few places for an anti-hubris view of knowledge, criticizing Aristotle as a know-it-all and favoring quantum indeterminism. Though he fails to understand that free will is also undermined by indeterminism. I love the ending -- a Cosmic intelligence network -- very inventive!

Kaku is another great populizer of physics. Einstein is still extremely fundamental to the 'study of the large'. You will see Kaku in many documentaries, Fox news sometimes, and on radio (he has a science radio show too).

Brian Greene is the Great Explainer or Brain Buster! I had trouble with his relative motion examples, the whole frog Higgs field examples, and the 'seeing into our future at a distant perspective' examples...but he forces you to learn in a deep way even if you don't quite get his explanations! Also he is an Einsteinian or a Spinozian lover of super-symmetry.

360 minutes of one of the most recent overviews of physics.

He defines science in an interesting way and provides a history of the three fields of science/technology he expects to advance the most in the future (Computers, the Biomolecular, and Quantum Mechanics); then he speculates about future advancements. Good history, excellent predictions both small and large. Goes along excellent with Hawking's "Universe in a Nutshell," esp. Ch. 6 on Star Trek.

He talks fast in the classic TV show sometimes, so I suggest the book version of his TV series.

Bronowski emphasizes our humanity as an intelligent species that can manipulate nature and advance. He is the turtle of scientific and technological thinking, but he offers a distinctive point of view and takes on the development of science and civilization from the very beginning.

One of HBO's very best series' ever. 12 excellent episodes, proving that going to the moon was an excellent example of our humanity. Jacob Bronowski would be proud of it I think!

The History Channel's excellent ongoing series. I sometimes have difficulty following the thread of its dynamic narratives (you can't look away!), but it's packed full of ideas, with whole episodes devoted to a common theme, such as the Sun or a planet and so on.

In addition to the usual Dinosaur graphics it also has very interesting speculation about genetics and creating future Dinosaurs.
