This is a general book about atheism from a very well known atheist science writer. If you are going to start to learn about atheism then this is maybe the best book you can read about it. The science in this book is top notch. It is part of the new atheism.

While this is not a book about atheism it is the essential counter-creationist primer. This is the book that discovered natural selection as the mechanism of biological evolution.

This book opens up the challange to intelligent design with lots of examples of natural selection and evolution in action.

Like Sagan this TV series from Bronowski covers the history of science. A number of episodes show how wrong religion got it. Pure science.

Political atheism. This is atheism done in a way that takes a look at a journalist who has dealt with cultures and religious people from many walks of life. The key point here is that monotheism advocates Orwell's 1984.

Sam Harris shows the danger of religion in the 21st century. Philosophical but mostly political Harris show us what the war on terror is really about.

You can actually read most of this document online. Russell made this speech in 1927 and it is still very powerful today.

This is like the George H. Smith book except it is extended more deeply into actually making a professional philosophical presentation for Atheism. It is the most detailed atheism book you can read but is very difficult but the challange theogians face is here.
