Director Dennis Muren spent $6,500.00 of his college fund to make student film with Ray Harryhausen-style special effects (remade by director Jack Woods for feature release as EQUINOX, 1970, which turned the spooky low-budget original into a creepy cheese-classic).

1971 color, Italian with English subtitles, LO STRANO VIZIO DELLA SIGNORA WARDH (THE STRANGE VICE OF MRS. WARD) aka NEXT! aka BLADE OF THE RIPPER, directed by Sergio Martino, starring Edwige Fenech and George Hilton, with soundtrack by Nora Orlandi. One of the most influential giallo of all time, a compelling murder mystery/thriller that is highly visual with a mesmerizing score.

1973 color, starring Christopher Lee and Britt Eckland. THE WICKER MAN is called "The Citizen Kane of Horror Movies" by Cinefantastique magazine.

1975 color, written and directed by Nico Mastorakis, with soundtrack by Nick Lavranos and Nico Mastorakis. Exploitation masterpiece about sicko couple on a murder spree, filmed on Mykonos Island, Greece. Low-budget, but competent acting. Depraved screenplay is juxtaposed with picturesque backgrounds and a romantic comedy-style soundtrack.

1976 color, directed by and starring Roman Polanski, twisted like an episode of Rod Serling's TWILIGHT ZONE that is for mature audiences.

1980 color, starring George C. Scott, Trish Van Devere, and Melvyn Douglas, with soundtrack by Mozart and Brahms, performed by The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Critically acclaimed thriller that is set in a haunted house.

1981 uncut, written and directed by Andrzej Zulawski; starring Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani; nominated for British Academy Film Award; winner of São Paulo International Film Festival Critics Award, and Cannes Film Festival Best Actress award winner; also nominated for Cannes Golden Palm award; strange art film, heavily edited for US release as THE NIGHT THE SCREAMING STOPS (1983).

Carpenter's PRINCE OF DARKNESS is a B-movie, and suffers from wooden acting for some of the secondary characters, but nevertheless it is an excellent remake of Hammer Studios' classic QUATERMASS AND THE PIT aka FIVE MILLION YEARS TO EARTH (1968).
