Most memorable Sci-fi that I have read

Foreigner: (10th Anniversary Edition)Foreigner: (10th Anniversary Edition) by C. J. Cherryh
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.62
The Foreigner series by C.J. Cherryh follows a human ambassador for a group of humans trapped on an alien world. The novels deal heavily with a clash of two cultures that identify emotions and relationships in fundamentally different and incompatable ways. Deeply anthropological, the Foreigner series is fascinating and compelling, though occasionally hard to read due to the writing style.
Isaac Asimov: The Complete Stories, Vol. 1Isaac Asimov: The Complete Stories, Vol. 1 by Isaac Asimov
Buy new: $16.52 / Used from: $8.39
Isaac Azimov is hands down one of the greatest sci-fi short story writers who ever lived. While some love his Foundation novels, I find them longwinded and boring. His short stories, however, are clever, thoughtful and often simply amazing. Look for classics such as "Nightfall," voted the greatest sci-fi story ever written in 1968.
Snow Crash (Bantam Spectra Book)Snow Crash (Bantam Spectra Book) by Neal Stephenson
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $3.87
Snow Crash is a strange cyberpunk style novel about a dystopian future. It is also one which has been profoundly influential in Sci-fi and on the computer using world. It is widely cosidered the general origin for the popular use of the word Avatar on the web. Snow crash is a deeply philosophical story about language and culture. It's also one of the most unique stories I've ever read.
Starship TroopersStarship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.89
Starship Trooprs is probably best known to younger folks as a mediocre movie from the 90's. But it was a book first and easily one of Author Heinlein's best. A highly philisophical and political book that uses the backdrop of a war against insectoid aliens, this book is easily one of the must reads of sci-fi.
Short Works of Jack LondonShort Works of Jack London by Jack London
Buy new: $23.99
Jack London? What does Jack London have to do with Sci-fi? Well, he wrote a story called The Red Plague about a plague wiping out humanity. Set in a future where only the brutal survived, the last surviver of the civilized world tells a group of boys about how it happened. A look into London's socialist beliefs, this is also a good yarn.
Empire from the AshesEmpire from the Ashes by David Weber
Buy new: $10.88 / Used from: $1.55
While not great sci-fi by any means, I first read David Weber's Mutineer's Moon in high school. I love the whole idea of the moon being a giant space ship. And the follow up novels were just as fun with Colin McIntyre and the AI ship Dahak trying to rebuild an empire from the ashes. Space opera stuff! Eat you heart out.
Schlock Mercenary: Under New ManagementSchlock Mercenary: Under New Management by Howard Tayler
Buy new: $15.00 / Used from: $12.99
I've been a fan of Howard Tayler's Shlock Mercenary since about a year after he started the long running webcomic. The tale of a futuristic group of space mecenaries, Schlock Mercenary combines hard sci-fi with brilliant comic writing. "Under New Management" is the "dead trees" edition of the webcomic. It starts midway through the webcomic, but is a good place to start for the uninitiated.
