Simple Design and Efficient Cleaning4
I am fairly impressed with this simple foam pad filter. I have mine in a 90 gallon tank with 7 turtles. It handled 6 pretty well needing the pads cleaned about every 7 to 10 days; however the 7th seems to much and now the filter "dies" every couple days. Turtles are very messy so the fact that a sub hundred dollar filter keeps up is great.

I love the simple design and the fact there are only about 7 pieces and most of them are large. This makes it easy to take apart, clean, and put back together without losing anything or forgetting anything. My one complaint here is I wish it had a "hatch for cleaning the jet head. The head clogs up with "stuff". You can tap the head on the side of the sink while running water through it to get most of it, but I always feel like it could be cleaner.

The last part I will comment on is the filter media. It is very simply two foam pads. The spaces in the foam generate helpful bacteria and do a good job of grabbing most of the "junk" in the water. Another plus is the supplemental pads that you can by to go between the foam pads. I have used polyester pads my self to clean the water better [minimal improvement as turtle waste is fairly large] and a carbon pad. This is the area where it loses a fifth star. You really do need some rocks and carbon and foam together to clean a big tank well, and while the Fluval 4+ does a great job for the price, you get what you pay for, a HUGE foam filter that can push some water.

Fluval 4 Plus Canister Filteration System5
This is a sweet filter. I replaced my hang on back filter for a canister, and this was the best bang for my buck I could find. It is super quiet, and has an out take of 260 gallons per hour, and an adjustable out take valve. It also has an optional oxygenator tube if you want more air circulation in the water. When I put it on full 260 gph out take with the air going, my firemouth and loaches love it! They play in the flow and chase the bubbles around the tank. I have the water flowing one way only, and it gives the tank a river like current.
All and all a good can. filter, I suggest buying it from That Fish Place- they have great deals and super fast shipping!

Confused........4
This is a neat filter, but the directions it came with are terrible. First off the clogging indicator: how do you know when its clogged? Does the indicator change color? Does it move up..or down? The directions don't tell you.
