Value to dollar
Much of the satisfaction with these little toys lies with the expectation of what they'll do. Given the price, they're a blast, BUT, they're not precision flyers and aren't going to be at that price point.
My son and I have discovered about four basic designs, all appearing to be manufactured by the same company, being sold under a huge variety of company names, ranging from totally out of line to reasonable "disposable" toy price. This particular form factor is my favorite.
These little helicopters are indoor toys. Yes, they can be flown outdoors on the fairest of the fair days, but given their IR control system, distance and outdoor lighting can easily confuse the controller. For the same reason, one wouldn't want to fly in too large a room, but still a larger than the standard living room is helpful, since the control is sluggish. (I'd estimate that a 30'x30' box would be great).
My son (he's 10, I'm 55) and I manage to take off, fly around our average sized living room, avoid obstacles (ceiling fans, lamps, cats, etc) and land on a designated 18 inchish surface (i.e. cardboard box).
Given the price of these toys, we've realized an inordinate level of enjoyment. Money WELL spent given the fun, the "together time" and general giggles generated!
get an air hogs havoc!
I have both this helicopter and air hogs havoc heli. this helicopter seems more stable in the air (takes off /lands better) BUT doesnt turn left/right as easily as havoc heli. if I were to choose between havoc and this one, I'd definitely choose havoc.
