Editorial Reviews

Album Description
Performer and songwriter Mariah Carey has set April 15th as the in-store date for the most eagerly anticipated album of the year, E=MC². The 11th studio album of her career, E=MC² is the follow-up to The Emancipation Of Mimi, Mariah's worldwide 10 million selling #1 album, which generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), 2 #1 singles and countless more industry honors during its 18-month stay on the charts. The first single from E=MC² is "Touch My Body," written and produced by Mariah Carey, C. "Tricky" Stewart, and The-Dream, and blasting out worldwide on February 12th. The video for "Touch My Body" was directed by feature filmmaker Brett Ratner - Internet, cable and network premieres for the video will be announced in the weeks ahead. In addition to C. "Tricky" Stewart and The-Dream, other guest producers joining Mariah on E=MC² will include Jermaine Dupri, DJ Toomp, Stargate, Will I Am, Bryan Michael Cox, Nate "Danjahandz" Hills and James Poyser.. E=MC² is executive produced by Mariah Carey and Antonio "LA" Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group.

The Emancipation Of Mimi, released April 12, 2005, was an industry phenomenon for the mega-platinum award-winning superstar - Soundscan's biggest-selling album of the year, bringing total sales of Mariah's albums, singles and videos to more than 160 million worldwide, making her the most successful female recording artist in history. Mimi featured "We Belong Together" (winner of the Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song Grammys) and "Don't Forget About Us," Mariah's 16th and 17th #1 career singles respectively. They tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley's 17 #1's. Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 48 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits.

Customer Reviews

Mimi tries to follow up a great album like Emancipation. Let's see how this one faired:4
Just so you know, I received the album 2 days ago. And I've listened to every song at least 2x, my favorites even more.

Migrate 8.25/10 Used to annoy me. Should've used some other rapper other than T-Pain.

Touch My Body 9/10 Great song but overplayed.

Cruise Control 8.75/10 A nice rhythm to it. Composition is nice too. Melodic.

I Stay In Love 10.25/10 What else is there to say besides the fact that it blows Touch My Body out of the water and 95% of the other tracks also.

Side Effects 8/10 Great lyrics, average rhythm.

I'm That Chick 9/10 Very dance-able and vibe-ish. Nice Mariah. Nice.

Love Story 7/10 Nothing special in my eyes. The rhythm is boring and the song on a whole, takes you nearly nowhere.

I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time 9.5/10 Amazing for a modern pop song. The production, strong, rhythm, nice.

Last Kiss 7.5/10 Like Love Story, this track is one of the weaker ones. OK rhythm but the melody isn't strong and you probably won't remember this unless you like the unexciting lyrics.

Thanx 4 Nothin' 8/10 One thing I've noticed is that a lot of these songs are midtempos that don't separate themselves apart too much. What I'm saying here is that a lot of them like Love Story and Last Kiss sound very similar. The Emancipation wasn't like that.

O.O.C. 5/10 Unlisten-able. Unoriginal. Boring. Ugh.

For The Record 7.5/10 Not much to say. It's better than some of the previous tracks.

Bye Bye 10.25/10 My second favorite track (behind I Stay In Love).

I Wish You Well 6.75/10 An endearing gospel kiss off to the people that have hurt you. Doesn't come close to comparing to Fly Like A Bird but is better than the boring O.O.C.

114.75/14 = 8.196428571

8.196428571 = 4.10

4.10 stars.

end note: I can't believe this album wasn't as bad as I anticipated. When I heard Touch My Body and early versions of Migrate and Bye Bye, I was only super-impressed with Bye Bye. Touch My Body was next up but it wasn't classic material.

Same old same old...1
Mariah keeps repeating the same old material and repackage into something new. Calling the album E=MC2 is ridicious, is she trying to tell us this is a the replica version of the last album with steriods injected?

First single 'Touch my body' sounds like a tone down version of "always be my baby' she done more then ten years ago. The second single "bye bye" fare even worse - sounds like any other ballads she had done yeaRs ago.

Unspiring beats, familiar chorus keep repeating all over and over again in the last ten yrs of her career.

Maybe is time for her fans to tell her 'bye bye'?

Stop with the whispy vocals Mimi!1
E = MC2 by Mariah Carey is intolerable to say the least. I wish Mariah would stop singing in a hush, quiet voice. What happened to that sexy, rich and gutsy powerhouse I used to admire. Her self-image doesn't help either, she still dresses like a 20-year-old. Songs like I Stay in Love, I Wish You Well, I'm That Chick, and Touch My Body are weak and embarrassing. I'm sorry to say this but Mimi has lost the magic, see ya!
