Product Description

We have known how to fly for centuries...

Long ago, Daedalus invented wings, showing us that it could be done. He made two pair of them, one for himself and one for his son. It was a truly wonderful gift.

The old legend tells of a father and son flying together, out over the sea on a beautiful warm day long ago, and of a story of loss that Deadalus told when he finished the flight. We seem to have collectively decided to stay on the ground ever since, but why? There was so much more to the story that Daedalus did not tell.

Daedalus Rising completes the myth, telling The True Story of Icarus and revealing an ancient mystery whose time has finally come.

Daedalus Rising brings to light what really happened in the sky that day, recasting and recreating the meaning of an old myth through the telling of the story of a son's quest and of the father who cared deeply about him.

It is a story of initiation and growth, and of the power of wings.

A New Mythology for the 21st Century

In the original Icarus myth, there were two sets of wings... Both Icarus and his father had them. They soared together away from the land and out over the sea on that beautiful warm day long ago. Only one of them, Daedalus, the creator of the wings, returned to tell the story of what happened in the sky that day. Everyone knows the story that he told, with its harsh consequences, sadness and loss.

That version of the Icarus story has lasted for centuries, but there are huge gaps in the old myth. It is not to be believed. Much more happened in the sky that day. For his own reasons, Daedalus was not able to explain it. But now it is time for the for the truth to come out and the real story of Icarus to be told. This book unveils that ancient mystery.

The true story of Icarus is a wondrous tale about a father and a son that shared the journey of life together.

The true story of Icarus is a story of growth and initiation and of the need for independence and separation.

The true story of Icarus is not about limitation or loss.

The true story of Icarusis is instead a powerful and inspiring story of fatherhood, and of a shared journey toward meaning and fulfillment.

The true story of Icarus is about both the father and the son.

It is called Daedalus Rising, and its lesson is that wings are meant for soaring into the light and warmth of the sun.

Daedalus Rising is a story about what every man on this earth has in common with every other man.

Inspiration for the writing came from countless sources, and I am grateful to them all.

About the Author
The author began this life as Bobby, growing up in the heartland in Akron, Ohio. Quickly adapting into Bob, he remained one, long after graduating from high school in the Spring of 1970. That was a few weeks after and just down the road from the shootings at Kent State University, a shocking event in a tumultuous time which eventually instilled a belief, that the culture he had grown up in, had given up the idea of initiating boys into men, or children into adulthood. A few months after that, while listening to two young folk singers in a college coffee house sing their ballad about Icarus flying too high and falling into the sea, he began collecting the first omens and ideas about the Icarus myth, and wondering if initiation as a ritual began losing ground centuries before, when Icarus first fell into the sea and drowned.

Many changes, experiences and accommodations later, to careers and children and marriages, two beautiful children grew into adults, Robert emerged and it was all the perfect motivation and experience for writing this first book, Daedalus Rising - The true story of Icarus. Looking back there is much to be grateful for, and knowing that the deepest satisfaction and the best memories come from those times when the heart leads, rather than the head. Robert is blessed with two grown children. He is a storyteller, a husband, an elder, a marathon runner, a dancer, a writer of poetry and fiction, and practices law in Colorado, where he lives with his wife and their Boston Terriers. He has also appeared in the Boulder International Fringe Festival.

Daedalus Rising is a story about what every man on this earth has in common with every other man.

Inspiration for the writing came from countless sources, and I am grateful to them all.

Daedfalus for the 21st Century4
Loved Robert's interpretation. It made a lot more sense to me, plus being more positive than the original. It passed the test of a good story in that I found myself thinking of it for many days afterward.

Elegant read5
Daedalus Rising is a book that you should savor. It is written so elegantly, you'll feel like you're doing something nice yourself while you're reading it - much like getting a massage or relaxing in a hot tub.

It is true to the myth, but also takes you to a deeper level of involvement with both Icarus and Daedalus.

It is well done. I highly recommend this book!
