Editorial Reviews

Review
"I’ve examined a variety of other popular criminology textbooks but haven’t found any that I like as well. This book really does try to make it easy for students to identify key points, recognize connections between material in different chapters, and find additional material when they find a subject of interest. This is definitely the book I will adopt for my course, because it is well written, comprehensive, and popular with my students."

"I adopted this text because it does present the essential "core" of the material in a relatively clear, concise, and usable manner, relevant to the course for which it was selected. It is at once comprehensive, yet not unmanageable."

About the Author
Larry J. Siegel was born in the Bronx in 1947. Growing up in the City, he became fascinated by the effects social forces had on human development and behavior. While attending the City College of New York in the 1960's, he came to the realization, at the tender age of 19, that he was destined to become a university professor. At CCNY, he was introduced to the study of crime and justice in courses taught by sociologist Charles Winick. His newly developing interest led him to attend the School of Criminal Justice at the State University of New York at Albany. He completed his Master's thesis there in 1970, undertaking a study of attorneys in the juvenile court process, and then completed his Ph.D. degree in 1975 conducting a study measuring the effects of the juvenile court process on the self-image of youth. Dr. Siegel began his teaching career in 1971 at Northeastern University in Boston, where he taught courses on juvenile justice, research methods, and statistics. After leaving Northeastern in 1980, he held teaching positions at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire. He is currently a professor at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Dr. Siegel has written extensively in the area of crime and justice, including more than a dozen books on juvenile law, delinquency, criminology, criminal procedure and other topics. He is a court certified expert on police conduct and has testified in numerous legal cases.

Criminology: The Core5
I was very impressed with the prompt delivery of this item. I ordered it on August 17th, and I received it on the 19th, and classes started on the 20th. Excellent job! I would recommend this item to classmates.

Crim Just student, good resource4
I enjoyed how easy the text is to read and it has concepts in bold etc. It was very informative and covered the material very well. lots of resources from the publisher were helpful too. I did however feel like the text was written like a High School text book, and didn't seem to be advanced enough for a college course. but regardless it was a good resource for my criminology class
