Super Crunchers: Why Thinking-by-Numbers Is the New Way to Be SmartSuper Crunchers: Why Thinking-by-Numbers Is the New Way to Be Smart by Ian Ayres
Buy new: $16.50 / Used from: $1.88
The premise is interesting and I'm a huge believer in data-driven decision making, but an Executive Book Summary would have worked just fine.
Tomorrow Now: Envisioning the Next 50 YearsTomorrow Now: Envisioning the Next 50 Years by Bruce Sterling
Buy new: $11.21 / Used from: $3.99
Thought-provoking but laborious relative to Sterling's short work, which I find very readable.
Norwegian WoodNorwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami
Buy new: $10.04 / Used from: $3.90
Murakami's "traditional" novel, but still pleasantly weird.
How to Be Idle: A Loafer's ManifestoHow to Be Idle: A Loafer's Manifesto by Tom Hodgkinson
Buy new: $10.04 / Used from: $0.56
Reading this book was therapy.
Trouble Is My BusinessTrouble Is My Business by Raymond Chandler
Buy new: $11.16 / Used from: $1.84
Chandler and Philip Marlowe never disappoint. This is a collection of four long stories, not quite novellas.
A Wild Sheep Chase: A NovelA Wild Sheep Chase: A Novel by Haruki Murakami
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $5.71
My least favorite Murakami work so far, the prelude to "Dance, Dance, Dance" which I found infinitely more enjoyable to read.
Money, Sex, War, Karma: Notes for a Buddhist RevolutionMoney, Sex, War, Karma: Notes for a Buddhist Revolution by David R. Loy

Great Buddhist thought from a contemporary Western perspective.

A fascinating look inside the global drug trade and the history of marijuana trafficking. A fast, entertaining read.
The Children of MenThe Children of Men by P.D. James
Buy new: $11.16 / Used from: $0.01
I loved the movie and concept behind the book, but having seen the movie first, this was an unnecessary, laborious read.

A hilarious survey of philosophical traditions and concepts.
Jesus' Son: StoriesJesus' Son: Stories by Denis Johnson

If you don't mind the dark side, this very slim short story collection will hit you like a ton of bricks. Shocking and minimal.
Flight: A NovelFlight: A Novel by Sherman Alexie
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $4.00
My first book by Sherman Alexie. I loved it. Fast-paced, edgy, modern, well worth it.
After Dark (Vintage International)After Dark (Vintage International) by Haruki Murakami
Buy new: $10.04 / Used from: $2.39
One of my favorites by Murakami. Minimal, ghostly, dark.
Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night RunnerUltramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner by Dean Karnazes
Buy new: $10.04 / Used from: $1.58
Karno blows my mind. This was an inspiring and entertaining read that gave me a surge of motivation to work out harder and push myself to new physical limits. That said, I have no plans to run an ultramarathon anytime soon!
The Art of Living: A Guide to Contentment, Joy and FulfillmentThe Art of Living: A Guide to Contentment, Joy and Fulfillment by Dalai Lama
Buy used from: $4.11
Enjoyable text and beautiful photos, but there are better "Buddhism for Westerners" books.
The Definitive Book of Body LanguageThe Definitive Book of Body Language by Barbara Pease
Buy new: $16.50 / Used from: $10.84
Absolutely fascinating. I am now much more conscious of my own body language and that of others. Written in a very irreverant and humorous style.
Zen The Supreme Experience: The Newly Discovered ScriptsZen The Supreme Experience: The Newly Discovered Scripts by Alan Watts
Buy new: $15.56 / Used from: $1.96
I loved this book. Alan Watts is unbeatable. This is a great introduction to Zen, written in a loose, conversational style (since it was transcribed from some of his audio recordings).
Desolation JonesDesolation Jones by Warren Ellis
Buy new: $10.19 / Used from: $6.00
Kingdom ComeKingdom Come by James Graham Ballard
Buy used from: $10.59
Dark, dystopian anti-consumerism. Ballard is thought provoking. I enjoyed this book, but it tested me at times.
The Myth of Freedom (Shambhala Classics)The Myth of Freedom (Shambhala Classics) by CHOGYAM TRUNGPA
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $6.98
The first half of this book was great and presented new perspectives on Buddhism. The second half was difficult, a bit too dense and dry for my taste (in this subject).
Options: The Secret Life of Steve Jobs - A ParodyOptions: The Secret Life of Steve Jobs - A Parody by Fake Steve Jobs

Absolutely hysterical satire. Technology lovers, especially those fond of Apple (and those not so fond) should read this.

Touching and funny stories about the greatest college football coach ever, Paul "Bear" Bryant.

A great graphic novel series. Spider Jerusalem is a post-apocalyptic Hunter S. Thompson.
Ocean of Dharma: The Everyday Wisdom of Chogyam TrungpaOcean of Dharma: The Everyday Wisdom of Chogyam Trungpa by Chogyam Trungpa
Buy new: $9.15 / Used from: $3.45
Nuggets of Trungpa's wisdom and incisive perspective on Buddhism and the Shambhala tradition in a daily devotional format. I read it start to finish and got a lot of insight and enjoyment from this book. It stays on my bookshelf so that I can go back to it from time to time.
Outliers: The Story of SuccessOutliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell
Buy new: $15.97 / Used from: $13.57
In my view, this is Gladwell's best book yet. I enjoyed "The Tipping Point" and "Blink" but the subject matter of "Outliers" was far more interesting to me.
A Confederacy of DuncesA Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $0.98
It's a rare book that makes me laugh out loud, but this one did it over and over. Ignatius J. Reilly is one of the most memorable characters I've encountered in the last 100 books I've read.
