2nd Edition - NJKV STUDY BIBLE -review5
Nelson has released an updated and revised version of the NKJV Study Bible. It has been 10 years since the first edition of this excellent study Bible for all ages! There are more references and word translations in the center column with color coded words. The center column now includes translations/texts for better understanding. The notes seem a little smaller, but that could just be the style of printing. The history/doctrine/denominational charts are deleted. But
other pages have been added showing the teachings of Jesus, List of Jesus' parables, miracles, etc. There is a great subject index and a great large concordance for a study Bible. Each book introduction includes an article "Christ in the Scriptures". There are nearly over 75
maps, 80 charts, 150 Bible Times and Culture, 114 articles on doctrines,
350 revised Word studies, book outlines, timelines, articles on Bible study helps, etc., and much more. Plus, over 15,000 extensive notes!!!
This is one of the very best,if not the best, study Bible on the market. My prayer is Nelson will put this edition in LARGE PRINT. (Also,
revise their BIBLE DICTIONARY AND GIVE US AN Exhaustive Concordance with
Hebrew/Greek dictionary in the NKJV translation.) THIS BIBLE IS GREAT.
THERE IS ALSO A CD-ROM with the same information! GET THIS BIBLE AND GO PLACES for knowledge in God's Word. The bindingpages appears good. A great study Bible in an accurate/modern translation. A WONDERFUL Tool for yourself and as a gift for others. Buy one today! Go first class with
the 2nd Edition of the NKJV Study Bible by Nelson. It's wonderful!!

A Modern Dispensational Approach4
One of the first things I do when examining a study bible is to look at the list of contributors in the front. Several, such as Darrel Bock are from Dallas Seminary. Others are from seminaries such as Western Conservative. So in examining the notes, I'd expect what I'd call a modern Dispensational perspective similar to progressive Dispensationalism. In this approach, the basic Dispensational timeline is preserved but it is modified so that there is not so much emphasis on a future "Jewish looking" Millennial Kingdom. The Jews are still considered to be a race of people with purposes separate from the church, but for now, Jews join the church.

In discussions between Calvinism and Arminianism , both views are presented without definite bias; Romans 8:29 seems to lean a bit towards the Arminian view. When it comes to millennial view in the book of Revelation, the controversies about the various views are presented, but in the notes the premillennial view is preferred. The word "tribulation" seems to refer to a final tribulation before the return of Christ, usually 7 years in length based on Daniel 9. A rapture before this tribulation is preferred but other views are given as well.
So, if there is a bias in this Study Bible, it is towards a Dispensational-Premillennialism that is newer than the 1960s Ryrie & Walvoord presentations. Yet, it recognizes Non-Dispensational views and is not critical or excessively biased. It is notable that this Study Bible was updated in 2007. In 2008, the NLT Study Bible and the ESV Study Bible have been published; both are Non-Dispensational. The 2008 edition of the NIV Study Bible has gradually switched to Non-Dispensationalism as well.

The NKJV Study Bible then, is less biased than MacArthur's Study Bible since MacArthur takes a strong position towards the Reformed view of Salvation and the Classic Dispensational view of discontinuity between the people of God in the OT and the NT. It is also less biased than Ryrie and Scofield III.
The overall layout the Study Bible is very attractive and the notes are written in understandable language. Dispensationalists will feel comfortable with its theology, yet Non-Dispensationalists can benefit as well by knowing what is currently taught in Progressive circles such as at Dallas Theological Seminary.

Best Ever5
I rate this the best study bible available. I have bought many as gifts and have recommended it to many friends. Everyone has been pleased with it. I love the NKJV translation but more importantly is the commentary...there is plenty of it. Often one fourth to one half the page is scripture and the balance is commentary. The commentary is the important part. It gives background that is informative and helpful and always balanced. It will often detail several points of view on controversial scriptures. It never says any one is correct, it just states the different views. I love this balanced approach. I also love the cross references. The Gospels are cross referenced at the head of the scripture and other cross references are in a small box on each page. There are also cross references in the commentary. The book also contains a fairly detailed Concordence that I often reference plus the wonderful maps, word studies, special commentary sections and so much more. You will not be disappointed by this bible. I origianlly bought the hard cover version but wore that out then purchased the leather bound version.
This book is so usable that I bought a version for my grandson when he was twelve. He wanted a REAL bible, not a childrens bible. He loved it then and at fourteen he had it with him when he came for a recent visit.
