Customer Reviews

Sterling songwriting and fantastic energy.5
In the last three weeks since I bought the disc, I've been kicking myself for not running out and getting the LP back in the early '80s when the album was released. It could have been a crucial component of my musical education. This music bursts with a frantic energy, refined with wit, that I have only heard from one other artist: Jules and the Polar Bears. Each song is a small masterpiece, with the second-to-last track, "Until I Believe In My Soul" being positively transendescent. The hit single "Come On Eileen" sounds even better in context than on the radio!

As for the eight bonus tracks, I'm not sure what to say -- my cup has runneth over already, anyway. The live tracks are fascinating, because they show the band's ability to go beyond note-perfect renditions -- "Come On Eileen" is quite suitably extended. There is also a seven-minute plus version of the Aretha Franklin hit "Respect" which I can easily live without ever hearing again. It doesn't matter -- the original album was worth the import price, frankly!

I intend to acquire every available release of Kevin Rowland's and Dexy's Midnight Runners, based on the quality of this fantastic disc.

Truly one of the best CDs ever5
I join the crowd in rating this as one of the best CDs ever. There are those who regard "Come On, Eileen" as the greatest track ever recorded by anyone, and both the studio and live versions are here in all their glory. I bought this strictly for "Come On, Eileen" and was surprised at the variety and consistent quality of the songs. Of Kevin Rowland's various incarnations, this was surely him at his best. The music is unique and has a haunting quality that will have you coming back to this again and again. I'm a big fan of the Beatles, Stones, Clash, etc., but I'm prepared to concede that "Come On, Eileen" may actually be the greatest track ever recorded by anyone.

BLEEDIN MARVELOUS5
THIS WAS THE FIRST ALBUM THAT I EVER BOUGHT, AND ALTHOUGH I WAS ONLY FIVE I LOVED IT. I DON'T THINK IT HAS RECIEVED THE CREDIT IT DESERVES. IT'S A MUST FOR ANY TRUE MUSIC FAN.
