Kit fixed my Super Smash Brother Brawl Problem
The kit is a plastic disk with a tabbed handle on and a cleaning pad glued to it and a bottle of cleaning solution. You put two to three drops of the cleaning solution on the pad and then insert it into the Wii as you would a regular disk. Once inserted, you move the tab 3/4 of an inch 10 to 20 times to clean the lens. Then you eject the disk. That's all there is to it.
It comes with a bottle a solution that seems like it'll last awhile at 2-3 drops per use. It also has five extra cleaning pads, which are only changed when one gets dirty or starts coming off. So, it seems like the kit will last through plenty of uses.
How useful is it? My first use was necessary because of a problem I was having, and it worked wonders. Here's the story:
Last week, I finally bought Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. As happened with some other users, my Wii wouldn't play it... it's the only double-sided disk game to come out for the Wii and apparently very sensitive to lens contamination.
I wrote to Nintendo. They said I had to send the unit back for repair and that no lens cleaner -- not even theirs -- would cure the problem.
I used the lens cleaning kit anyway, and guess what? Super Smash Bros. Brawl now plays perfectly.
I figure if it solved that problem, it'll solve almost any lens dirt problem that can happen to a Wii. Since I smoke cigarettes near the Wii, I consider it an essential item, and a bargain at the price.
Fixed my "Press the Eject button and remove the disc" problem.
After a year and a half w/o any problems with my Wii console, I started getting "An error has occurred. Press the Eject button and remove the disc..." errors. These got more and more frequent until I was getting them a couple times an hour. (This usually happened while I was playing Mario Kart Wii online, so I was losing hundreds of VR points each time I got the error!) There was no visible damage to the game disc and cleaning the disc did not help. I was pretty much ready to either send in the Wii console for repairs or else buy a new Wii console when I came across this Wii Lens Cleaning Kit while searching online.
After using the cleaning kit, I have not gotten a single "Press the Eject button and remove the disc..." error. It's been about a month and half so far with no errors.
The cleaning kit is pretty simple. It consists of a plastic paddle with an attached cleaning pad. You put 2-3 drops of the supplied cleaning fluid on the pad, then insert the paddle into the Wii's disc slot. You wiggle the handle 10-20 times to clean the lens. Press the Eject button to remove the paddle, and you're done. The kit comes with an 8ml bottle of cleaning fluid and 5 adhesive replacement pads for when the current pad gets too dirty to use again.
Spending $10 on a cleaning kit was definitely better than sending in the Wii for repairs or buying a new Wii.
Worked a treat
Our Wii was giving a read error on any disc we tried, both Wii and Gamecube discs. This kit got us back up and running 100%. Both Wii and Gamecube games work perfectly again. Sure beats sending it back for repairs, especially since it's out of warranty. Definitely recommended.
