About the Author
From working family to fame and life in the fast lane during the roaring twenties. Buddy was in 15 films, was 5 feet 18 1/2 inches tall, and 285 pounds at that time. Buddy (born June 11, 1915 in Denver, Colorado) did not live to see the turn of the century, nor did Vicki (born Verna Jewell Brumbelow December 1, 1925 in Lomita, California) but they had many happy years together in Sacramento, California. Buddy was outward going and friendly by nature. Vicki was gracious and friendly and showed musical talent at an early age. Buddy died July 18, 1986, and Vicki October 25, 1997.Their earthly remains are together at Oaklawn in Sacramento and their true spiritual beings are united and with us still.

Customer Reviews

captures life, times, and brotherly love4
The book is a straight forward narrative of a gentle giant struggling to balance his extrodinary life during the tremendous and violent changes of the early and middle 20th century. Buddy Bear gives an intimate portrait of a man who is a physical colosus and at the same time an introverted, sensitive artist. Blessed and cursed with a brother (Max Baer) whose force of personaltity is so dominant, so unique, so bright, and yet so loving, Buddy's journey to find his own identity is the core of the book. He paints a rich picture of the fight game with its backdrop, the America of the 20's, 30's, and 40's and beyond. He depicts times and places as one who lived it, not as one who has merely researched it, and at times he does so with a simple, beautiful poetry.
