Product Description

The popularity of motorcycle tour riding is increasing steadily, but riders taking off on extended trips must realize there are unique hazards they can face when riding without support far from home. This book is a comprehensive "how-to-tour" guide that includes information on how to plan, what to pack, how to make emergency roadside motorcycle repairs, how to develop a "personal safety net" for when things go wrong, and how best to avoid having things go wrong.

Author Dr. Gregory W. Frazier is the world’s best-known touring rider and is the rider best qualified to cover topics such as: where to go and why, whether to go alone or with someone, equipment preparation, where to sleep, physical hazards, motorcycle gadgets, stretching your dollars, and more. He also offers first-hand tips on "survival on the road."

Review

RoadBike,

June 2006 (circ.: 45,325)

“This book is filled with great advice, all punctuated with entertaining stories from Greg’s own experiences. It’s also full of excellent photos of fellow travelers and unusual situations, the kind of pictures that make you want to get out and explore the world for yourself. If you read this book before heading out for adventure, you’ll benefit from Greg’s years of experience.”

Friction Zone

(CA), September 2006

“Motorcycle Touring is really three books in one--it’s part memoir, part how-to guide, and part coffee table book.”

Customer Reviews

Certainly not Everything You Need to Know3
I agree with A. Brannon "MLC Rider" to a lot of fluff and not enought subtance. The book is mostly Doc Frazier's travelog. I was looking for information on how to travel, with what and how to do it safely.

This book is certainly not Everything You Need to Know.

I think the better book is:
The Essential Guide to Motorcycle Travel: Tips, Technology, Advanced Techniques
by Dale Coyner

Light but interesting3
I enjoyed reading the first half of this book but then found it very repititous. There were some good common sense tips that you would apply to travelling the world by any mode not just motorcycling. His stories and anecdotes were interesting at first but it soon became obvious that the book was well padded with fluff and photos.

The Doctor Knows5
Overall, Dr. Frazier is very knowledgable about motorcycle touring - his travel credentials are impressive. We'll have to agree to disagree over his opinions on motorcycle electronics such as cell phones, GPS, CB, etc. He feels that they are distractions, and disruptive to a good motorcycle tour. This may well be true for the bare-knuckled rider that he appears to be. However, for this Gold Wing riding old grey-haired guy, I firmly believe they have their place - at least in the touring I do. C'est la vie!

Overall, this is a very good reference.
