The best motorcycling in the East is tucked away deep in the mid-coast's Appalachian mountains. Motorcycle Journeys through the Appalachians will take you to the greatest roads and roadhouses that only the locals, like author Dale Coyner, know about. The ribbons of tangled roads that weave from Pennsylvania to the Carolinas are now yours for the taking with an expert as your guide.
Inside you'll find tips, roads, and trips that will make your journey to the Appalachians unforgettable. Coyner has found all the best routes through Pennsylvania, all the best cooking in North Carolina, and all the reasons why West Virgina never disappoints passionate motorcyclists. Amish farmers, bluegrass music, Elvis memorabilia, remnants of the War Between The States--Coyner has found them all. He'll help you get to, through, or around, everything that's worth seeing.
This book is packed with colorful maps, colorful photos, and colorful Coyner humor that will have you laughing out loud. Coyner tips you to the best places to eat, shop, sleep, gas up, and, of course, ride. If you want adventure, and a great riding companion, take this book along when you head out to explore the region that will soon be your favorite to ride: America's Appalachian mountains.

About the Author
Dale Coyner's journeys through the Appalachians began out of a curiosity for what was "around the next bend." He came to riding later than some, purchasing his first motorcycle, a Yamaha Radian, after he finished college. He credits the open, freewheeling nature of motorcycling with firing a sense of wonderment about his surroundings that led to rediscovering his native region. He shares his best finds with you in this book.
For many of the tours in this volume, Dale relied on his trusty Honda Gold Wing. He's not sure if it was the size of the Wing, the pop-up camper he was pulling, or the bright red Aerostitch suit that garnered the most friendly smiles in his travels, but he got a lot of them. His current ride is a Honda GL-1800.

Head of the travel book class
Of all the travel books in my collection, Motorcycle Journeys Through The Appalachians is my favorite. I have not come across another touring guide that covers this part of the country so well. I have sold my bike but still find Motorcycle Journeys to be a great reference for planning a weekend outing with my wife and kids. I would have liked a little more detail in the table of contents but that's a minor wrinkle in light of the value this book delivers. Mileage to waypoints, maps, terrain descriptions, highlights make the trips easy to follow and enjoy. In addition to being very thorough, Coyner's writing style is entertaining and the book is a fun read. If your journeys will take you through the Appalachians, this book is a must-have companion.
Useful and witty resource
It's not just for motorcyclists! A friend gave me this book when I was planning an anniversary trip in Virginia's Appalachian mountains. I found myself not just browsing for information on the area I wanted to visit, but reading the entire book for sheer enjoyment (and annoying my family by reading bits of it out loud to them). Coyner has thoroughly researched every trip and offers timely advice about roads, weather conditions, places of interest, restaurants, etc... Not only is the book useful as a travel guide, it's a hoot to read. I would recommend it to anyone who's planning travels in the Appalachians -- whether you're riding in your car or on a motorcycle.
Practical Guide Accompanied By Measured Humor
For me there are three parts to a good trip - the preparation, the adventure itself, and then the memories. This book has helped me a long way in achieving all these pleasure points. The maps and text are wonderful; the crafty photo's with tasty captions peppered appropriately throughout this guide left my partner (who does not accompany me) recommending more sights than I could handle. A keeper, if not just for that.
