Editorial Reviews
Review
"Our previous adventures under the guidance of the MAD Map's Northern California/Wine Country Scenic Tours edition proved a fabulous experience. These more detailed offerings proved consistently well researched and offered up a variety of routes for the avid motorcyclist. The actual cartography is accurate as are the directions, and finer details important to the motorcycle traveler, gas stops in particular, are a well-marked consideration, especially given the sometimes anemic 100 mile (~160 km) range of snapper Kevin s bike when laden with excessive travel gear." [Refers to MAD Maps Get Outta Town: San Francisco] When I was young, my parents and I went for Sunday drives in the country. We'd go down roads just to see what was there. The folks who created Mad Maps must do the same. They've ferreted out ten drives in the San Francisco Bay Area, some of them ones I'd never discovered in almost a decade in the area. While San Francisco is a city best seen by walking, Mad Maps also offers three city drives: the 49-Mile Drive, Sunny Downtown and a Foggy Day adventure. Having their turn-by-turn descriptions in hand is a plus, helping negotiate San Francisco's sometimes-maddening maze of one-way streets. The country drives are charming, perhaps most appealing to locals seeking new scenery, or for a traveler who likes to explore off the beaten path. --Betsy Malloy, About.com Guide "California for Visitors"
About the Author
Jenny Lefferts, the entrepreneurial force behind MAD Maps, learned her love of scenic road travel from her father, whose idea of a summer vacation was a family road trip in the '72 VW bus. In 1987, Jenny purchased her first motorcycle. She was instantly hooked and began searching the area for the best day trips around San Francisco. The seed for MAD Maps was planted. Now the company offers the best kept secrets of North American back roads with their Get Outta Town, US Regional Touring, and Rally Run series.
