While some follow the herd this watch is about classic styling and not worrying about what others may think. Understated and confident, this is not for the wannabe. It's not about the ice and the trinkets. If you prefer that then you should look elswhere for something to match your goofy gold tooth. I've had my Explorer for 3 years. Simply put, its a great watch!
This watch is for the connoisseurs
The Rolex Explorer I, as it is often called, was launched in 1954, and evolved from models from the 1930s. This model has something of a cult following, creating at times a long waiting list. The Explorer I is the watch that has stayed closest to the core values of Rolex over its long history. Thus, the Explorer remains timeless, rugged, elegant, solid and minimalist.
As a fellow commentator stated, this watch is not for the wanna-be's. This is for people with a genuine interest in quality, and in the aesthetics and history of Rolex wristwatches. Do not let the relatively low price confuse you. This is one of the greatest watches made today.

That's why I like it so much. It is a Rolex, through and through. It has the distinction of being the first watch to be carried to the top of Mt. Everest, yet it is just as appropriate for a black tie event or the boardroom, as it is for a trek through the wilderness.
Quiet, refined, elegant, and rugged, those are the qualities that define both the Explorer and legendary adventurers.
