Originally from Senegal, West Africa, Claude Gomis now makes his home and his music in New York City. He is the son of Orchestra Baobab lead singer, Rudy Gomis, and literally grew up onstage dancing and playing drums with them. Seeds of Baobab, Claude's first full-length release, finds his continent-combining sound in full bloom: Afro-Beat grooves meet Big Apple beats and words of many languages dance around exotic melodies. Musicians include Paul Simon band member Tony Cedras and a multi-national cast of contributors.

Customer Reviews
true art
It's very rare to find such a superior world music album like this one. I believe it is a sleeper classic that people will refer to many years from now. Claude Gomis is a true artist and a standout creative personality. His music may be influenced by traditional West African sytles, and there are some strains of his father, Rudy Gomis, from Orchestra Baobab to be heard here; however, what Claude has created with Frankie and Jo Jo is a style and feeling that is truly original and exciting. As an avid collector of many styles of music, I highly recommend this to anyone in search of something different and interesting. You'll play it over and over again.
Something Different!
There's a nice mix of modern upbeat danceable songs plus mellow songs to chill out to. The songs are sung in a mixed patois of several languages (english, french, spanish and wolof). A well rounded, beautifully crafted, original album, very unlike anything else out there, since it's rooted in West African rhythms but also is influenced by a lot of other types of music too.
